Tony’s Chocolonely Almond Honey Nougat

Image
A big thanks to Tony’s Chocolonely UK for sending me some bars from their newly launched UK range to review recently. They have quite an impressive assortment indeed and more impressive still is the annual report booklet on their fair trade mission, that they sent along with the chocolates. I haven’t read it fully yet but am very keen to do so! I firmly believe ethical chocolate is the way forward, in fact it’s the only way forward if we are to continue enjoying the treat. Tony’s are on a mission to make it the norm - so bravo to them and to help in their mission you can spread the word about their tasty chocolates! First up for review is this Almond & Honey Nougat Milk Chocolate, their take on that classic combination otherwise known as Toberone. The ingredients are pretty similar to Toblerone but of course the chocolate is better quality - Belgian fairtrade Chocolate with 32% cocoa solids, with almond and honey nougat pieces. I do love the bar design  - it’s haphazard...

Madecasse Honey Crystal Dark Chocolate

Image
I do enjoy Madecasse chocolates, ever since I was introduced to them a few years back I've been a fan. Their range is made with Heirloom cocoa - "Earth's original and most flavourful variety of cocoa", which is quite the claim but may just be accurate. Madecasse work directly with farmers in Madagascar, making them "Direct Trade". To learn more about their story visit www.madecasse.com . Madecasse have changed their packaging recently, and I have to say I do prefer it over the previous look. There's now a monkey holding a cocoa pod on the front which is very fitting. This Honey Crystal variety caught my eye in a large Waitrose store - but it's also available from waitrose.com . I found it on special offer of £1.99, and if you hurry it might still be on offer! As well as a new packaging design they are also using gold foil to wrap the chocolate, which I love - it makes the bar feel super special! The chocolate contains 63% cocoa solids, with hon...

Toblerone Milk Chocolate Review: new shape change!

Image
Today's review isn't for a new product, although it may as well be...not content with making Dairy Milk's blocks curved and altering the recipe, Mondelez have had the audacity to alter Toblerone's 150g Milk Chocolate bars. On the plus side they don't appear to have changed the actual recipe, but what they have changed is... The blocks! I was very surprised when I bought this bar in Tesco recently, I don't often buy Toblerone but on this occasion I fancied a change. I'd heard the rumours that Mondelez were reducing the size, but I never thought they'd do it in such a ridiculous way. I mean just look at the distance between those blocks! It hardly looks like the same bar any more. The base layer of chocolate is of course much thinner and the wider gaps are to give the illusion that the bar is still the same width. But did they really think no one would notice should a blatant design change?! What's worse is that it doesn't just ch...

Toblerone White Chocolate Bar Review

Image
My recent experience trying the Crispy Coconut Toblerone made me realize something...I'm yet to review the classic, delicious white chocolate Toblerone! So here it is, the review you've all been waiting for... I found this 100g bar for around 69p in B&M bargains, it's one of the few places to stock the white chocolate variety. You can get them around Christmas time from most supermarkets but the rest of the year it's impossible to get one. It's by far one of the nicest Toblerones around, so why it's not more widely available is a mystery to me... This comprises of Swiss white chocolate in the classic triangular Toblerone blocks, with honey and almond nougat pieces mixed in. I do love the design of Toblerone bars...they always feel so much more special than any regular chocolate bar, and it's so satisfying breaking off the triangular chunks to nibble on. The white chocolate is super sweet and milky, made even sweeter by the honey and nou...

Tesco Honey Caramel Chocolates

Image
After Easter, Tesco reduced a boatload of their Easter eggs and amongst them were these Tesco Honey Caramel Chocolates. I've been curious about them ever since I saw them, but with an RRP of £4 I decided not to bother! Luckily these were reduced to just £1 so I couldn't say no to that! They're described as "Honey flavoured smooth caramel in a yellow shell with dark chocolate decoration". I think the yellow shell is meant to be some type of white chocolate although it doesn't state specifically on the ingredients. When I bit into one of these I was amazed at just how strong the honey flavour was...it was like eating pure honey rather than caramel! I didn't enjoy it to be honest, I was expecting more emphasis on the caramel with an aftertaste of honey, but the honey was forefront in the flavour here. Just too intense for me. Overall, I'm glad I didn't pay £4 to try these but even at £1 they're not something I'd try again. They...
