Nestle Rolo Crack It Desserts

Image
After finding the new Yorkie Crack It desserts the other day, it didn't take me very long to find this Rolo variety...they were just in a different Tesco! They cost £1.30 for two 90g pots, and I'm sure they'll be on special offer at some point. Like the Yorkie Crack It pots, these contain a layer of solid chocolate, but unlike those they contain a rather more inviting caramel dessert beneath. When I opened the lid, the caramel was actually oozing out from underneath the chocolate topping. I promptly cracked through it with a spoon... It wasn't quite as fun this time around since I'd already experienced the same thing with the Yorkie desserts, but the thought of the caramel dessert beneath was exciting... I'm pleased to say this dessert was a lot tastier than the Yorkie version, the caramel is the perfect gooey consistency, sweet and buttery, and the texture contrasts nicely with the "cracked" chocolate. However, it became obvi...

Rolo Dark Chocolate Dessert (Limited Edition) Review

Image
I recently spotted these Rolo Dark Desserts in a discount store and couldn't resist giving them a try. I've already reviewed the regular Dark Chocolate Rolo's and wondered how it would translate into dessert form... They're described as "A layered dark chocolate and toffee dessert" and contain 4 small pots per pack. Unfortunately I think I must have got a bad batch. The dessert had a rather unpleasant gelatinous texture, and the dark chocolate and toffee flavours didn't distract much from this. The toffee layer tasted pleasant enough though, with the dark chocolate layer adding a richer flavour to balance out the sweetness.  Overall though, I wasn't a fan of these desserts, the texture is too off-putting. I think I'll stick with the Milkybar variety! RATING: 6.5 out of 10. Allergens : Milk, soya. Not suitable for vegetarians.

Nestlé Rolo Dark Chocolate Review

Image
Nestlé UK have been quietly releasing new variations of their classic products over the last year or so...we've had Toffee Crisp in Sharing Block format , a new Milkybar with added Cookies, White Aero's, Toffee Kitkats, Caramel Kitkats, Honeycomb Toffee Crisps , and now these...Dark Rolos. Although they're called "Dark", they contain only 45% cocoa solids, which I guess is about as "dark" as a mass produced chocolate like this is going to get. To be honest, if I was given these in a blind taste test I don't think I would have been able to tell they were dark chocolate. They tasted pretty similar to regular Rolos, although maybe a tad less milky. They were still extremely sweet and moreish, with the classic sweet toffee centres making me reach for one too many. Before I knew it half the bag had gone....oops! Overall, although these are not truly dark chocolate and won't impress chocolate conoissours, they're a very moreish snack and p...

Rolo Ice Cream Easter Eggs

Image
Whilst in Waitrose recently I came across these Rolo Ice Cream Eggs, alongside some Smarties Ice Cream Eggs. I'd read about them a while ago in this press release , and thought they might be a genuine product first, since ice cream Easter eggs have never really been done before. Unfortunately though, they're not - they're just pots of ice cream with lids on. So much for "ice cream easter eggs" then! To me, the pots look like some kind of weird space pod rather than an egg. What do you think? The "Egg" I chose the Rolo "Eggs" because they sounded a bit more luxurious than the Smarties variety. The blurb on the pack reads: "Rolo ice cream eggs contain chocolate ice cream, with a smooth caramel yolk, decorated with caramel sauce and milk chocolate pieces". In contrast the Smarties versions contain vanilla ice cream, a fondant "yolk" and mini Smarties on top. I had to laugh at them describing the centres as ...
