Alpro Unroasted Unsweetened Almond Milk

Image
Today's review is for a product that's been out a while now...Alpro's Unroasted and Unsweetened Almond Milk. I first purchased this last year when it came out, since I like to try all the new dairy free milks on the market. It promised to have a fresher taste than regular roasted almond milk. Like all Alpro milks it's vegan certified and gluten free. You can find it in the UHT section of most Tesco stores. It tastes very different to roasted almond milk - it's like marzipan in milk form, but without the sweetness! That's the main thing it tasted of - a strong flavour that reminded me of Battenberg cake, which was quite novel and certainly made for an interesting cup of tea! I did actually prefer it over roasted almond milk, it's definitely more refreshing and suits hot drinks better. Overall, this is one nut milk I would highly recommend - especially if you like marzipan! 8.5 out of 10.

Alpro Dessert Moments: Coconut Review

Image
After trying the Alpro Dessert Moments Hazelnut Chocolate and Almond Vanilla , there was only one left for me to track down...the elusive coconut! For some reason Tesco only just got this in a week after the Almond Vanilla variety, so I snapped one up as soon as I could. This is available in the revamped chilled Free From section in Tesco, or at least it is in my local one. It's suitable for vegans, gluten free and nut free, and contains 30% less sugars than standard dairy based chilled desserts. They cost £2 for 4 pots. Like the other desserts these are made with hulled soya beans, various thickeners and also 5.3% coconut milk. They had the texture of cold custard - never a bad thing - and a mild but pleasant coconut aroma. I was a little worried these might have the same unusual soya flavour as the Almond Vanilla variety but luckily, the addition of coconut milk seems to have balanced it out. These have a pleasant creamy coconut flavour that is very nice, maybe...

Alpro Dessert Moments: Almond Vanilla

Image
After trying the new Alpro Dessert Moments: Hazelnut Chocolate I was excited to try the other varieties in the range; rumour has it there's a Coconut one which I haven't been able to find yet, but luckily I did spot this Almond Vanilla version in Tesco over the weekend. It was part of Tesco's revamped chilled Free From section. Like the Hazelnut Chocolate variety, these cost £2 for 4 pots and are vegan, vegetarian, dairy free and gluten free. They contain 30% less sugar than similar chilled dairy-based desserts. The desserts contain 1.7% almond as well as hulled soya beans, natural vanilla flavour and various thickeners in the ingredients. Opening the lid, they looked a bit like cold custard, with a gloopy thick texture. I can't say that's a bad thing! These tasted a bit different from the Hazelnut Chocolate variety, the flavour of the soya beans is more noticeable here and has a slightly odd taste. The vanilla is nice, and the almonds bring a f...

Alpro Dessert Moments: Hazelnut Chocolate (UK) Review

Image
I'm not often one for chilled desserts, however when I heard about this new soya-based vegan Chocolate Hazenut dessert from Alpro I just had to give it a try. I love vegan desserts as I find they're often lighter on the stomach than dairy-based desserts, and anything with chocolate and hazelnut in is a winner! These are also gluten free, low in fat and contain 30% less sugar than standard dairy desserts of this type, thanks to the hazelnuts being full of flavour. Here's the ingredients list: They cost £2 for 4 pots in Morrisons, which is pretty reasonable. They were in the chilled section with the other Alpro yogurts, although this was the last pack on the shelf. Must be popular! Peeling off the lid revealed a gloopy looking dessert. I would usually complain about it, but knowing that it lacked the horrible gelatine regular desserts like this contain, I don't mind at all! Taking a spoonful, I first noticed the texture...it's gloopy but strangely ...

New Alpro Coconut Dairy Free Ice Cream

Image
Alpro have launched a new range of Vegan Society approved, Dairy Free ice creams onto the market, all of which should be appearing in most Tesco stores soon. I've already reviewed the Hazelnut Chocolate variety, and today it's the turn of the Coconut. Like the Hazelnut Chocolate one this is gluten free, soya free and is made with soluble gluco fibre (I still have no idea what that is!) and 13.3% coconut cream. I was hoping the addition of coconut cream would improve the taste and texture of this compared to the Chocolate Hazelnut, and it has...but not by much. This does have a vague coconutty flavour, and is creamier than the Chocolate Hazelnut variety. It reminds me of Carte D'or Coconut flavour ice cream that was available yeeeears ago, but sadly, it's again ruined by a weird stale taste presumably coming from the soluble gluco fibre. I didn't feel like eating much of it, which is rather unusual for me. Overall, I appreciate that Alpro are br...

New Alpro Hazelnut Chocolate Dairy Free Ice Cream

Image
There's some new Dairy Free Vegan ice creams on the block...and this time, they're Soya Free too! Which is unusual considering they're made by Alpro, Kings of the Soya Milk market. I'm glad they're soya free because I'm a little sensitive to the stuff myself...and no doubt so are many others who are vegan, dairy free etc, so it's nice to have an alternative. Unlike most new Dairy Free products this one isn't made with coconut milk or legume protein, instead it's made with water and "soluble gluco fibre"...whatever the heck that is! If anyone knows, please feel free to enlighten me in the comments! Here, you can see the ingredients list for yourselves: Hearing the words Chocolate Hazelnut had me thinking this would be like Nutella in ice cream form...foolish, I know, but one can dream! Sadly it's nothing alike... It didn't taste very nice at all to be honest. It reminded me somewhat of Christmas Calender chocolate, ...

Alpro Cashew Original Fresh Nut Milk

Image
When I posted a pic this new Alpro Cashew Milk on Instagram the other day it caused quite a stir...so much so that my curiosity got the better of me and I decided to give it a try. It cost £1.80 in Tesco which isn't all that cheap, but I'm sure it'll be on a £1 offer in the near future. This milk is of course dairy free and suitable for vegans and vegetarians alike, as well as gluten and soya free. It contains 3.1% cashew nut, as well as sugar, stabilisers and emulsifiers, which is typical for most nut milks. It has 2g sugars and 23 calories per 100ml, and contains vitamins B12, B2, E and calcium. I poured some into a glass to find it had a rather heavy, creamy texture, almost like full fat cows milk. I wasn't expecting this since other dairy free milks are often thin and watery. Taking a sip, I found it to be pleasantly sweet and quite silky, with a distinctive cashew flavour. It's probably the only nut milk I've tried that tastes similar to cows milk...
