Nakd Nibbles Mint Humbug Review

Image
It's been ages now since Nakd brought out their Fruit & Nut Nibbles range, and one product from it that I haven't been able to find anywhere was the Mint Humbug variety. Until now! I managed to find a bag of these in a small health food store in Leeds recently. They're the same as all the other fruit and nut Nakd nibbles; raw, vegan, gluten free and cold pressed, containing a mixture of dates and cashew nuts and raisins, as well as natural mint flavouring. Unlike the Cocoa Mint bar these aren't chocolatey flavoured, and all the better for it really...they really are reminiscent of mint humbug sweets, but y'know...natural and healthy and without all the sugar! They're a great sweet and filling snack, very moreish but won't leave you hungry afterwards. Overall, these are some tasty nibbles from Nakd, it's just a shame they're not as easy to find as the other varieties. Highly recommended if you can find them. Nutrition Information (per 40...

Nakd Berry Bliss & Cocoa Twist New Recipe Bars

Image
Amongst the Nakd bars I was sent recently were the New Recipe Apple Danish and Banana Bread bars, as well as these Berry Bliss and Cocoa Twist varieties. They're made with a mixture of oats, raisins, cashews, dates and "fruit extract" which consists of apple and carob. All are vegan and gluten free, as well as refined sugar free. Thankfully they're not flavour free! The Berry Bliss variety is lovely; so fruity thanks to the raspberries and strawberries, it feels like a real summery treat indeed, in fact it'd be perfect for the Wimbledon season! But it would also be good for those times in Winter when you want to remember the Summer months too, haha! 8 out of 10 . The Cocoa Twist bar is a more simple affair, but very satisfying and has a nice rich cocoa flavour. It's the closest to a natural brownie bar you're going to get, and makes for a very filling snack. Highly recommended. 8 out of 10 . Overall, these are another two great snacks from Nakd,...

Nakd Posh Bits: Cocoa Sea Salt

Image
It was only a few days back that I reviewed Posh Bits Cocoa Raspberry and hoped to find the Sea Salt variety, well it seems Tesco answered my prayers straightaway because the next day I found these in their Free From Section. Hurrah! Tesco now stock these as well as Cocoa Raspberry and Cocoa Mandarin . They cost £2.75 and of course are raw, vegan, gluten free and dairy free. Here's the ingredients...it's quite a simple list, like all Nakd products. I'm not sure what I was expecting from these, really...I know what salted caramel tastes like so was half expecting something similar. Maybe it's a subconscious thing since salted caramel is becoming so ubiquitous as a flavour these days. There were little flecks of the sea salt just visible on the Bits. Like the other varieties they come in heart, diamond and dome shapes. And they tasted lovely! I was a bit wary initially they might taste weird with the added salt, but if anything it enhanced the sweet flavour ...

Nakd Cocoa Mint Bar Review

Image
I do love me a good Nakd bar. They're launching a new premium range soon called Nakd Posh Bits and I for one am super excited! So much so I thought it about time I review their Cocoa Mint bar to tide everyone over until the new range arrives. I'd been recommended this bar by the lovely Vegan Queen Erin aka Guilt Free Veggie but alas it was hard to find. Most shops didn't sell it, but luckily I chanced upon a bar hiding in a corner of Waitrose...huzzah! Of course it's all raw, vegan, dairy free, gluten free, refined sugar free, but not nut-free...you know the drill by now if you're familiar with Nakd bars ;)  What it isn't free of however is flavour! Like all Nakd bars it's mostly dates and cashews "smooshed together", with a nice kick of cocoa and mint flavouring. Now often bars like this only taste vaguely of chocolate, I don't know why, but this bar felt like it had got the flavour just right...it has a nice earthy cocoa flavo...

Nakd Peanut Delight Bar Review

Image
Nakd Wholefoods have released three new bars onto the healthy snacks market, one being the Carrot Cake Limited Edition I reviewed yesterday, and the others being Apricot Crunch (I'm yet to find one...boo!) and this, Peanut Delight. Like all Nakd bars it's vegan and paleo friendly, as well as gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free, raw and vegetarian. This bar contains 149 calories, 7.5g fat and 14.6g carbs (13.6g of which is sugars). The bars cost 75p in Asda's Free From sections. Unlike most Nakd bars, this doesn't contain cashew nuts as one of the main ingredients...instead it contains...can you guess?...go on, try! Peanuts of course! Yes, surprisingly this Peanut Delight bar contains peanuts as the only nut ingredient (which technically isn't actually a nut...but let's not go there!) as well as dates, sea salt and a hint of mysterious, unspecified natural flavouring. Now I'm a big lover of all things peanutty, so I had high expectations of t...

Nakd Carrot Cake Bar Limited Edition

Image
I've been after this new Limited Edition Nakd bar ever since it came out...sad I know, but I do love me some uniquely flavoured healthy snacks! I've been steadily trying everything Nakd make now for a good while and most of it I've enjoyed, but this new flavour as well as the Peanut Delight and Apricot Crunch have eluded me...it took a trip to one of the larger Asdas in my area to finally obtain one! This cost 75p, which is about standard for a Nakd bar, and was situated in the Free From section alongside the new Peanut Delight (review of that one due shortly!) Sadly they didn't have Apricot Crunch...boo :( It's vegan, gluten free, vegetarian, 1 of your 5 a day, contains no added sugars and is completely raw. The specific ingredients comprise of dates, walnuts, raisins, almonds, cashews, carrots, cinnamon and a hint of natural flavouring; pretty much all the things that make carrot cake unique. For once the cashews were lower on the list at 5%, with the walnuts...

Nakd Pecan Pie Bar

Image
I'm secretly quite a fan of Nakd bars...not only are they gluten free (a biggie for me!), they're dairy free, vegan and refined-sugar free to boot. Woo! Sadly they're not nut-free, so those who go pop from nuts step away now! I do have issues with nuts myself, particularly macadamias, but lately I seem to be doing ok with the lesser nuts. Nakd bars are predominantly a mixture of cashews and dates, which touch wood I am ok with thus far.  I've been after this Pecan Pie Bar ever since I first noticed it...I do love pecan nuts especially combined with sweeter flavours, and I wondered how Nakd might recreate pecan pie in bar form. I spotted this along with the Cocoa Mint variety in Waitrose so couldn't resist snapping up both! (Stay tuned for a review of Cocoa Mint).  This bar contains a mixture of dates, pecans and almonds, and nothing else. I kinda expected the addition of a flavouring such as cinnamon or cloves, since pumpkin pie would traditionally ...

Nákd Coconut Bliss Fruit & Nut Nibbles Review

Image
I've been on the hunt for this "Coconut Bliss" variety of Nákd Fruit & Nut Nibbles ever since I first heard they were available. They must be pretty popular, as Asda are almost always sold out. Luckily I finally managed to nab a bag, probably thanks to shopping very early in the morning! They're pretty similar to the other Nibbles in the range, but with the addition of some toasted dessicated coconut and natural coconut flavouring. They have a slightly more speckled appearance than the other nibbles. They tasted very nice, although maybe not quite as coconutty as I was expecting. I'm often making my own desserts with dessicated coconut so I suppose I'm used to having a more intense coconut flavour. They were nice, don't get me wrong, but I do think they would've benefitted from a greater ratio of coconut. The other ingredients are dried dates, raisins and cashew nuts. Overall, these are a tasty, healthy snack and do give a nice coconut...

Nákd Strawberries & Cream, Salted Caramel and Toffee Treat Nibbles

Image
I recently reviewed Nákd Fruit Salad and Tooty Fruity Nibbles , and as well as those flavours there's several more. I'm yet to find the Coconut variety, but whilst in Sainsbury's recently I came across the other flavours: Strawberries & Cream, Salted Caramel and Toffee Treat. Nákd Fruit & Nut Nibbles are basically healthier snacks in various sweet flavours. I think theyre a great idea and a good way to help folks reduce sugar intake and eat more "real" food. They're also vegan, raw, dairy-free, gluten-free and contain no artificial nasties. All whilst being very tasty...no easy feat! They're made with a combination of dates, raisins and cashew nuts. Strawberries & Cream Nibbles: The strawberries and cream variety tasted lovely; the nibbles had a strong creamy strawberry flavour. I'm not sure how they achieved this as the ingredients only list "natural flavours" and they contain no strawberries or dairy, but the taste wa...

Nákd Fruit Salad and Tooty Fruity Fruit & Nut Nibbles

Image
Nákd Foods produce snacks made from all-natural ingredients, usually consisting of dried fruits and nuts, which are cold-pressed and never baked with no added sugar or syrups. They're suitable for vegans and are gluten-free and dairy-free. They recently announced the launch of a new "Fruit & Nut Nibbles" snacking range, and luckily I happened to spot some in Asda recently. There's quite a few flavours but today I'll focus on Fruit Salad and Tooty Fruity. If you're like me then the mention of Fruit Salad takes you back to those sugary orange sweets from childhood, often found in Pick & Mix with Black Jacks. They were full of sugar and chemicals, but highly addictive. They had a unique flavour, and to be honest I've never had anything else fruit salad flavoured...until now! These "Fruit & Nut Nibbles" are a much healthier way to get a sweet fix, and as an adult trying to reduce my sugar intake I am grateful for them...now I don...

Nákd Cocoa Orange Fruit & Nut Bits Review

Image
I've been experimenting with healthy snacks recently (see my review of Primal Joy Foods Paleo snacks HERE ), and whilst in Tesco Express these Nákd Fruit & Nut bits caught my eye. They come in a handy snacking bag and so are perfect for sharing...which means of course that I gobbled the lot all to myself! The "bits" are made up of dates, cashews, raisins, cocoa, rice flour and a hint of orange flavouring, which are then "smooshed together". They are wheat, gluten and dairy free, vegan and contain no added sugar. They're also apparently 1 of your 5 a day. Opening the bag and pouring some out I have to say I wasn't all that eager to try them - they looked like, well...lumps of poo springs to mind! (sorry, I had to say it!) Thankfully they had a chocolatey orange aroma and such unpleasant thoughts were quickly forgotten! They were quite fudgy in texture, and had a nice rich cocoa flavour with a zingy hint of orange. They were sweet but not...
