Tesco Gingerbread Flavour Milk Limited Edition

Image
Kev's Christmassy Reviews have returned, hurrah! Although I've already reviewed a few festive treats this year such as the Tesco Candy Cane Crisps and M&S Milk Chocolate Cinnamon Tortillas , it's now December so it's "official" Christmas Review time. Hope you all enjoy reading! Today's review is a new limited edition from Tesco... I have a love/hate relationship with ginger. It can be nice in puddings and cookies and mixed with other spices but I'm not a big fan of Gingerbread. I don't know why but I never liked it - even as a kid, I found it very boring. However, when paired with other ingredients it seems to work alot better, and creamier flavours balance out the spiciness and add a new dimension to it. So I was very curious indeed when I saw this new Gingerbread Limited Edition in Tesco recently. Launched just in time for the Winter months, this cost a mere 50p for 330ml, is suitable for vegetarians and contains flavourings. It's...

Go Coco Coconut Shakes: Chocolate Fudge, Banana Split, Strawberries & Cream

Image
Recently Home Bargains started selling this range of Go Coco Coconut Milk shakes, in three flavours; Chocolate Fudge, Banana Split and Strawberries & Cream. I had never heard of them before so snapped up all three flavours. They were around 70p or so per carton. They're suitable for vegans, dairy and gluten free and contain no refined sugars. They're sweetened with date nectar and stevia as well as fruit purees, and contain dietary fibres. Starting with the Chocolate Fudge variety, this is the one I enjoyed the most of the three. It had a very sweet but distinctly fudgey chocolate flavour that was very nice. The coconut milk made it somehow lighter and more refreshing than a milkshake containing dairy. I would definitely buy this one again, I loved it! 8.5 out of 10.  The Strawberries & Cream was my second favourite, it was a bit sweeter due to the extra strawberry puree, but very refreshing and tasty. This would be perfect on a Summers day. 8 out of 10....

The Co Op Rhubarb & Custard Milk (Limited Edition)

Image
I'm always a sucker for a limited edition, and when I spotted this Co Op Rhubarb and Custard Limited Edition milk over Easter, straight into my basket it went! I've always enjoyed rhubarb and custard so putting it in milk form seems quite the logical next step, although it's not something I've ever seen done before. This cost £1.29, is suitable for vegetarians and gluten free. There's some "Amoosing jokes" on the carton, such as "Where did the rhubarb get its hair cut? The rhu-barbers". Eye rolls ahoy! There's also rhubarb facts such as "In the wild rhubarb can reach 6 to 10 feet in height". Educational too, thanks Co Op! Onto the most important thing then...how does it taste? Well, I was expecting it to be artificial but it actually tasted lovely and fresh! The flavour was very realistic in tasting of both rhubarb and custard in equal measure, with the thick texture of the milk making it even more reminiscent of custard. This...

Frijj Loaded Choc Orange Milkshake

Image
It's been a while since I tried a new Frijj variety, since I had the  White Choc Raspberry Swirl last year in fact, so I was quite pleased to see this new Loaded "Choc Orange" flavour in Tesco recently. There's also a new Mango & Passionfruit flavour, but it didn't appeal to me since fruit and milk usually don't go well together! This cost £1.30 (although it's now reduced to 60p on special offer) and like all Frijj milkshakes has a rather thick consistency. It's described as a low fat milkshake, with 70 calories per 100ml and is suitable for vegetarians. I poured some into a glass and got a nice waft of chocolatey orange aroma...it smelled lovely. Sadly it didn't taste as good as it smelled. The chocolate orange flavour was rather weak, from both the chocolate and the orange flavours. This surprised me a bit, I can't see how you can get an artificial flavour like this wrong. It was pleasant enough, don't get ...

Chai Tea Latte (Tesco) Review

Image
I've been curious about this chai tea latte for a while now. I've seen it in tesco for ages, so when it was reduced to 50p recently I decided it was about time I gave it a try! It's a basic milky chai tea, but cold of course. And to be honest it doesn't work very well as a latte drink. Chai tea should be warm and comforting, the spices just aren't as tasty with cold milk. There was a notable lack of tea flavour too. Overall, a pleasant milky drink but a bit lacking in the chai department. I would recommend spending your money on a Costa or Caffe Nero chai instead! RATING : 7 out of 10.

Frijj Supreme White Chocolate Raspberry Swirl

Image
Whilst in Tesco recently I spotted this White Choc Raspberry Swirl Frijj on special offer, so couldn't resist giving it a try. It's not "new", but I've been curious about it for a while now. I was just biding my time until it was reduced in price ;) The label says "Now more indulgent", so I'm not sure what it tasted like before. It's also called "Supreme" and I'm not sure if all Frijj milkshakes carry this label now, or just the fancier flavours. Anyway it turned out to be a pleasant enough milkshake, with the typically thick, frothiness you expect from Frijj. However the white chocolate flavour wasn't very strong; all I could taste was the weak raspberry flavour. It made for a pleasant drink but didn't deliver the creamy white chocolate hit I was hoping for. Overall, as pleasant as this milkshake is it's not something I would pay full price for. If you're a fan of white chocolate I wouldn't bother with ...

Revels Creamy Toffee Milkshake Review

Image
Mars UK have merged a lot of their confectionery brands into milkshakes over the last year or so, most notably Skittles ( which I reviewed here ), but also Bounty, Snickers, and now Revels too! Revels is an odd choice since there is no "distinctive" Revels variety, and for this milkshake they've chosen "The Toffee one", which is even odder since they already do a "Mars Caramel" milkshake. Do we really need two different toffee/caramel style shakes from the same company? Going by the taste of this I would say the answer is "No!". This shake really doesn't add anything new to the category at all, it's simply a very basic sweet toffee milkshake. It wasn't particularly flavoursome or great quality, and definitely not as good as Frijj milkshakes. Overall, I can't recommend this, it just seems pointless when there's so many other better milk drinks out there. Maybe they should have done a "salted caramel" var...
