Co Op Rainbow Unicones & Cherry Bakewell Ice Cream! (Spotted In Shops)

Image
Today's Spotted In Shops post is a bit late, but a heads up to anyone with a Co Op nearby...they are now selling Unicorn themed ice creams called... Rainbow Uni-Cones ! Yep, they've jumped on the magical unicorn highway and have created these Ice Creams complete with vanilla and raspberry ice cream, sprinkles and bizarrely, black waffle cones. Maybe to highlight the filling? Who knows! Going further to the Dark Side, they've also created these "Twice as Ice!" Double Chocolate Waffle Cones . I can't say they appeal to me, as much as like all things chocolatey. In fruitier ice creams, they're also doing these cool-looking Pineapple Lollies . Sounds tasty! They're also doing this lovely sounding Cherry Bakewell Ice Cream , complete with almond flavour ice cream, cherry sauce and digestive biscuit. Yum! Plus a Coconut & Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream , complete with butter enriched coconut biscuit and a truffle centre. As well as this ...

Cadbury Dairy Milk Freddo Faces Dessert

Image
These "limited edition" Freddo Faces desserts have been out for quite some time now, so I'm not sure what makes them so limited, but nevertheless I thought I'd give one a try whilst in my local Tesco express recently. It's basically like a muller corner, but with chocolate dessert on one side and some Cadbury Freddo faces on the other. Mixing them in, they looked like frogs that had got stuck in mud! I think pigs would have been a more appropriate shape...maybe Cadbury should create a new product called Piggies? Or Buttys? Just a thought! The dessert was pretty decent; creamy and chocolatey, whilst the Freddos were quite chunky and didn't really mix well with it to be honest. This is a nice idea on paper but it doesn't quite work so well in practice. I think caramel Freddos would be a better option, although I guess Cadbury don't make caramel Freddo Faces. Overall, this is a bit of an uninspired dessert and Cadbury's make others...

Alpro Dessert Moments: Almond Vanilla

Image
After trying the new Alpro Dessert Moments: Hazelnut Chocolate I was excited to try the other varieties in the range; rumour has it there's a Coconut one which I haven't been able to find yet, but luckily I did spot this Almond Vanilla version in Tesco over the weekend. It was part of Tesco's revamped chilled Free From section. Like the Hazelnut Chocolate variety, these cost £2 for 4 pots and are vegan, vegetarian, dairy free and gluten free. They contain 30% less sugar than similar chilled dairy-based desserts. The desserts contain 1.7% almond as well as hulled soya beans, natural vanilla flavour and various thickeners in the ingredients. Opening the lid, they looked a bit like cold custard, with a gloopy thick texture. I can't say that's a bad thing! These tasted a bit different from the Hazelnut Chocolate variety, the flavour of the soya beans is more noticeable here and has a slightly odd taste. The vanilla is nice, and the almonds bring a f...

Alpro Dessert Moments: Hazelnut Chocolate (UK) Review

Image
I'm not often one for chilled desserts, however when I heard about this new soya-based vegan Chocolate Hazenut dessert from Alpro I just had to give it a try. I love vegan desserts as I find they're often lighter on the stomach than dairy-based desserts, and anything with chocolate and hazelnut in is a winner! These are also gluten free, low in fat and contain 30% less sugar than standard dairy desserts of this type, thanks to the hazelnuts being full of flavour. Here's the ingredients list: They cost £2 for 4 pots in Morrisons, which is pretty reasonable. They were in the chilled section with the other Alpro yogurts, although this was the last pack on the shelf. Must be popular! Peeling off the lid revealed a gloopy looking dessert. I would usually complain about it, but knowing that it lacked the horrible gelatine regular desserts like this contain, I don't mind at all! Taking a spoonful, I first noticed the texture...it's gloopy but strangely ...

Nestle Rolo Crack It Desserts

Image
After finding the new Yorkie Crack It desserts the other day, it didn't take me very long to find this Rolo variety...they were just in a different Tesco! They cost £1.30 for two 90g pots, and I'm sure they'll be on special offer at some point. Like the Yorkie Crack It pots, these contain a layer of solid chocolate, but unlike those they contain a rather more inviting caramel dessert beneath. When I opened the lid, the caramel was actually oozing out from underneath the chocolate topping. I promptly cracked through it with a spoon... It wasn't quite as fun this time around since I'd already experienced the same thing with the Yorkie desserts, but the thought of the caramel dessert beneath was exciting... I'm pleased to say this dessert was a lot tastier than the Yorkie version, the caramel is the perfect gooey consistency, sweet and buttery, and the texture contrasts nicely with the "cracked" chocolate. However, it became obvi...

Nestle Yorkie Crack It Desserts

Image
Nestle have recently launched more of their chocolate bars into dessert form, this time with a layer of chunky chocolate above the dessert so you can "get stuck in to the delicious chocolate dessert beneath". Sounds fun doesn't it?! There's two varieties so far, Rolo and Yorkie, but strangely my local Tesco only had the Yorkie variety in the other day. Hopefully the Rolo one is coming soon. They cost £1.30 for two pots of 90g of dessert, although I'm sure they will be on special offer at some point. It's basically chocolate dessert with a layer of set chocolate above it...there were a few grooves in it so I stuck my spoon into them. I must admit it was somewhat fun smashing through the chocolate. Unfortunately, that was where the fun ended. The actual chocolate dessert is quite bland, it's not particularly creamy or chocolatey, just a standard chocolate dessert. I couldn't help but wish I had the Rolo variety instead! Overall, these...

Nestle Nesquik Duo Chocolate & Vanilla

Image
There seems to be quite a bit of competition in the dessert pot market at the moment, both Cadbury and Nestle have launched practically all of their famous chocolate brands into dessert form, which seems like a lazy way to capitalize if you ask me. Most are just variations of the same thing: a mixture of milk, sugar and gelatin with the addition of caramel, mint etc.  These Nesquik Duos are pretty much the same kind of thing...a duo layered dessert of chocolate and vanilla flavoured pudding.  Removing the lid I was met with a gloopy, gelatinous chocolatey mass. It didn't look that appetizing.  It tasted rather bland and non-descript. The chocolate layer is standard chocolatey gloopy dessert whilst the vanilla layer has a slight vanilla edge, but it's certainly not quality bourbon vanilla! I didn't enjoy these at all to be honest, they seem so pointless and tasteless. I suspect they're aimed at children because of the branding but still...eve...

Thorntons Fabulous Fudge Pots Toffee

Image
As a little birthday treat recently, I decided to spoil myself and give these new desserts from Thorntons a try. Thorntons are the masters of toffee and fudge, so combine that with "real Devon clotted cream" and surely they're onto a winner?! The desserts cost £1.50 at Tesco and are described as "fudge mousse with a layer of toffee fudge dessert". Each pot contains 65g which is small, but they're so tasty and rich this is a good amount. Naturally though, I ate both in one sitting...call me piggy, but I can't imagine many people would eat just one pot! It was a little difficult to distinguish between the layers as both are the same color, but the fudge layer had a nice sticky texture and was full of rich butterscotch flavour, whilst the mousse was smoother and lighter but equally as tasty. These are very indulgent desserts indeed, and far nicer than the similar Pots of Joy from Cadbury. Overall, these are a win from Thorntons, I just wish I...
