Milka Confetti

Image
I do love it when a new Milka variety is brought to the UK, and luckily Home Bargains recently brought out a whole new range in their stores. It includes large "Mmax" bars with Hazelnuts, as well as the smaller Caramel, Noisette and White Chocolate bars (do check out my reviews of the latter two). Since I've never tried it before I had to give the Confetti variety a go - it's Milka chocolate with basically mini Smarties embedded in it - a simple, but often tasty combination. I have to say the bar certainly looks the part - with the cross sections showing the colourful candies embedded within. How does it taste though, is the most important question right? Well I don't know what went wrong with these bars but unfortunately this was pretty lacklustre. The milk chocolate tastes a little cheap and dare I say, waxy, with the mini Smarties candies adding virtually nothing to enhance the bar. They're mildly crunchy but not particularly so, and just seem ra...

Milka Dark Chocolate

Image
We don't seem to get many new Milka bars in the UK these days, since Mondelez just convert most Milka products into a Dairy Milk version, which is a shame really because MIlka has a distinctive flavour that's very different from Dairy Milk. Perhaps it's the alpine milk in Milka bars, or the higher cocoa content, but they definitely have that unique "something" that Dairy Milk can't replicate. So I was excited when these new "dark" Milka bars appeared in B&M and Home Bargains recently. They cost 79p, and consist of 45% cocoa dark chocolate with the addition of hazelnut paste and milk powder (so aren't suitable for vegans unfortunately). The chocolate tasted pretty good! It has that distinctive creamy Milka flavour of alpine milk, with the hazelnut paste adding a vague nuttiness in the background. It's very tasty and was easy to eat a lot of, but more of a richer milk chocolate than a true dark chocolate. Overall, this is qui...

Cadbury Dairy Milk Big Taste Toffee Whole Nut

Image
Recently Mondelez/Cadbury decided to copy their Milka range from Europe and bring out these "Big Taste" bars under the Cadbury brand. Why they can't just directly import the Milka versions is beyond me...I guess us Brits will only buy chocolate if it has the words Cadbury Dairy Milk slapped on it?! As an FYI, the Milka "Toffee Ganznuss" version of this bar is currently available from B&M Bargain Stores for only £1.99 (check out the lovely One Treat At a Time's review ), and also please do check out The Snack Warrior's review of all three Dairy Milk Big Taste bars . I didn't fancy splashing out three quid per bar, and I'm allergic to gluten so I couldn't try the Oreo variety, so it was a toss-up between this or  Triple Choc Sensation (click for Nibbles & Scribbles review). This sounded like the more luxury bar out of the two, so into my basket it went! Sadly there's no hand-selfies this time ( The Snacks Warrior ...

Milka Bubbles White Chocolate & Hazelnut

Image
I recently found this bar of Milka Bubbles White Chocolate in a discount store, and for only 60p I really couldn't say no and bought the last two bars they had. They're made by Mondelez Russia, and the bar has the same bubbly block design as the discontinued Dairy Milk Bubbly, with a nut filling above each block. According to the English translation on the wrapper, the filling is "crushed fried peanut", yet I can clearly see hazelnuts on the front of the wrapper...hmm something must have got lost in translation!  The bar was hard to break evenly due to the bubbly blocks, but eventually I managed to glimpse some of the chopped nut filling above one of them...whether or not they were hazelnuts or crushed fried peanuts is anyone's guess! The chocolate was overwhelmingly milky and had a strong vanilla flavour, but the nuts tasted stale and non-descript. The bar was pleasant enough but quickly became sickly sweet.  Overall, this is a nice novelty a...

Milka Choqsplash Hazelnut

Image
Last year Cadbury launched the new Dairy Milk Puddles, and if the clearance section in Tesco is anything to go by they may not be selling very well. I personally liked them although I do think they're a bit of a ripoff for the price. So I was excited to see this Milka version of the same thing in 99p Stores recently. Milka chocolate is usually a lot creamier than Dairy Milk, it's less sugar-dominated and more milky (alpine milk to be exact), so I was certain these would be good. The bars have the same design as Dairy Milk Puddles, curved "puddle" shaped blocks - perhaps this is where the "splash" part of the name comes from. Each piece contains a syrupy hazelnut filling. These were definitely a lot more pleasant than Dairy Milk Puddles, the chocolate starts off creamy and smoother than Dairy Milk, with the hazelnut syrup adding a sweet tasty hit of hazelnut. It's not quite upto the standards of Nutella and I'm puzzled why they didn...

Milka & Daim Ice Cream Review

Image
Whilst in a local discount frozen food store recently I spotted some tubs of Milka ice cream. I've already tried the UK Daim Ice Cream but wondered if this version with Milka might be different. It certainly looked it; it contains a marbled effect with chocolate ice cream with Daim pieces and vanilla ice cream with Daim pieces. The texture of the ice cream was rather light and moussey, as oppposed to the more dense ice creams from the likes of Haggen Dazs or Ben and Jerry's. It reminded me of Carte D'or. It tasted very nice...and surprisingly, I found the vanilla portion to be the nicest part. The creaminess complimented the crunchy Daim pieces perfectly, whereas they got a bit lost in the chocolatey flavour of the chocolate portion. Overall, this was a very tasty ice cream and one that's very easy to eat thanks to the soft texture. I actually preferred it over the UK's Daim Ice Cream . This one appears to be made in Germany and imported so isn't...

Milka Vanilla Cream Bar Review

Image
Whilst in a local import food store recently I spotted this new Vanilla Cream Milka variety. I'm not sure if it's just for the Polish market but I haven't seen it anywhere else. Being a fan of both vanilla and Milka chocolates in general I just had to give it a try! The chocolate contained a layer of vanilla cream topped with a layer of gooey yellow vanilla "sauce". It looked very intriguing; I don't think I've ever had a chocolate bar with a gooey vanilla layer before! There were speckles of vanilla seeds dispersed throughout the cream. It tasted very nice indeed...the creme filling was very smooth and creamy, whilst the gooey sauce was very sweet and further added to the vanilla flavour. It was a bit on the excessively sweet side, but still very nice, especially if you like vanilla flavored chocolates! Overall, this isn't something to rush out and track down, but it's still a very tasty bar of Milka which I'd recommend trying i...

Milka Alpine Milk Yoghurt Review (Polish version)

Image
I had resigned myself to never being able to enjoy Polish Milka bars; they're usually too sweet or artificial tasting. But again I decided to give one of their bars a go whilst browsing my local import store. I've never really tried many chocolates containing yogurt except the Ritter Sport Olympia , so thought I would take a chance on this one. I'm glad I did, because it turned out to be one of the nicer Polish Milka bars I've tried in a while. In a nutshell, the yoghurt filling is nicely creamy with a pleasant yoghurty tang, but not overpoweringly so. It blends well with the sweet alpine milk chocolate and makes this a simple yet creamy tasting chocolate bar. Overall, nothing groundbreaking, but it's a simple combination that works and if you like the tanginess of yoghurt with chocolate then I'd recommend giving this a try! They're available in most Polish stores. RATING: 7.5 out of 10.

Milka Tender a la Tiramisu Mini Rolls Review

Image
A while ago I found a load of different Milka products in a local Discount store. These have been doing the rounds for a while now and include a Milka Black Forest Roll, a Strawberry Yoghurt Cake, the Schokolade Cake reviewed here by Grocery Gems , Strawberry Mini Rolls and also these Milka Tender a la Tiramisu mini rolls. I paid £1 for this pack, which contains 5 mini rolls. When I opened one up it had a sweet chocolatey aroma with a slight hint of coffee. Taste-wise it was very light and spongy, with a light alcoholic coffee flavoured buttercream filling. It was nice but not very strong in flavour. Coupled with the very thin layer of chocolate coating I was a bit disappointed to be honest - it felt a bit insubstantial and not quite as special as I was hoping. Overall, these mini rolls were very pleasant but they're not really as special or fancy as they initially appear. The tiramisu flavour is a little weak and the sponge itself is too light. They're wort...

New! Cadbury Eclairs Velvets Review

Image
Last year I reviewed Milka Toffees Hazelnut Centres , a toffee containing a soft hazelnut filling coated in Milka chocolate which is available in Europe. It seems that Mondelez have used the exact same idea for these new Cadbury Eclairs Velvets, with the only difference being that they're coated in "Cadbury" milk chocolate. I bought these for £1 at WH Smiths but you can find them in most shops for around the same price. They're described as "Caramels with liquid chocolate flavoured centres covered in milk chocolate (25%)". Opening the pack I have to say they had a very enticing, comforting "Cadbury" chocolate smell. Each toffee is plastic wrapped in a purple and yellow design. Cutting one open I was met with a very familiar sight... Yes, they look exactly the same as Milka Toffees with Hazelnut Centres ! The main difference though is that these contain a slightly greater proportion of chocolate coating and a chocolate flavoured centr...

Meine Milka: Milchcreme & Honig (Milk Cream and Honey) Bar Review

Image
Whilst browsing Farm Foods (of all places!) recently I came across this bar of "Meine Milka - Milchcreme and Honig". It's described as "NEU - nur fur kurze zeit", which roughly translates from German as "New, only for a limited time". I'm not sure if it's old stock from last year or intended for this year in the German market but was still a good 5 months in date, and for only 50p I really couldn't say no! The filling is of course milk cream and honey, and on opening the wrapper I was met with a strong sweet honey aroma. The chocolate had a distinctive "European" smell with a slight hint of hazelnut. Cutting it in half revealed the cream centre with a portion of honey on top of each block. It was quite sticky and more of a sauce rather than real honey - presumably it'd been mixed with some kind of sugar syrup. Taste-wise the bar was very lovely - extremely creamy and sweet thanks to the layer of milk cream, an...

Milka Amavel Mousse a la Creme Caramel - Quick Review

Image
My apologies for yet another old review...I bought this bar months ago and it has remained in my snacks archives for quite a while! My camera is currently broken so I can't review any of the cool new snacks on shelves at the moment - boo-hoo! :( I picked up this bar from a discount store for 50p. It reminded me of the Milka Amavel Nuss Torte bar I reviewed here but instead of a sponge filling it contained a caramel-flavoured chocolate mousse filling. The bar came in 2 seperate plastic-wrapped sections: Each section contained 4 uniquely shaped triangular, curved blocks: Cutting one open revealed quite a firm truffle filling with a strong caramel aroma - it smelled absolutely delicious! Taking a bite I wasn't let down - the chocolate was extremely rich and with a strong caramel/butterscotch-like flavour that was very delicious. It was a little bit too rich actually, and I could only handle a few blocks at once. It reminded me somewhat of the filling in Lindor...

Lacta Toffee Nut Bar (Greek chocolate) Review

Image
"Lacta" is a brand owned by Kraft, and from what I can gather it is the Greek equivalent of the Milka brand. I've tried Lacta Popcorn before (see my Pick & Mix Review here ) and considering how tasty it was I couldn't resist buying one of these Toffee Nut bars from a discount store recently. They were 4 for £1 but I decided to go for just the one in case it tasted bad. In hindsight I wish I'd bought more! They look very similar to the Milka Toffee Hazelnut bar already available in Germany (and from Monster Sweets HERE ). The wrapper comes with a section meant to be ripped off at the end, so I happily obliged! Opening it up fully I was impressed by the shape of the bar. The blocks had a sleek and curved appearance: Taste-wise it was very nice indeed. It contained some sort of cream filling, topped with crunchy hazelnuts and caramel. The cream seemed to have a caramel flavour and was extremely smooth. The toffee and hazelnuts on top completed ...

Milka Erdbeer/Strawberry Chocolate Bar Review

Image
Whilst out doing some post-xmas bargain hunting recently I chanced upon this huge slab of Milka Erdbeer or "Strawberry" in a local discount store. They were being sold for £1.50 per 300g bar so I really couldn't resist...especially since it looked suspiciously similar to a certain Dairy Milk Strawberries and Creme  from last Summer! There was no English writing on the wrapper but it was pretty obvious it was a strawberry cream filled bar. Opening the wrapper, the chocolate had a slightly dusty "bloomed" look to it - perhaps due to being close to the best before date. Splitting it in half, the filling looked very similar to the Dairy Milk Strawberries & Creme: And it tasted like it too, albeit a bit sweeter and creamier. The filling was smooth and creamy with a slight yoghurty tang, whilst the Milka chocolate was rich and milky. The best before date was for the end of January but despite this the bar still tasted pretty good! Overall, this wa...

Milka Noisette Alpine Milk Chocolate Review

Image
When I saw this Noisette bar in Tesco recently, I thought it was a new flavour of Milka at first. I've never seen it in any other supermarkets or shops before...but there was no "new" label on it so I presume it's a flavour that already exists in Europe but has been imported into the UK. I paid £1.40 for it in Tesco, but I've also seen it in Discount UK for a mere 79p over the last few days - bargain! The bar is a simple combination of rich alpine milk chocolate with a smooth hazelnut filling. Opening the wrapper I was blown away by just how intensely nutty it smelled! I snapped the bar in half and bit into a piece. It had a delicious full-on hazelnut flavour that was very rich. It melted in my mouth like butter - it was so smooth! It reminded me of the hazelnut cream in Ferrero Rocher, although it was a lot richer. Overall, this is a fantastic Milka variety which I would highly recommend if you like hazelnuts, Nutella or Ferrero Rocher! Also If you ...
