Sugarfina Box Review

Image
Sugarfina recently contacted me to review one of their gourmet candy boxes, and as a lover of all things sweet I couldn't say no to that. They make quite an impressive range of artisan products, from cocktail gummies, birthday cake chocolates, and a fantastic range of caramels too. To check out their full range visit their UK website at  https://www.sugarfina.uk . The box they sent me contains a trio of interesting treats, including Robin's Egg Caramels, Jelly Ice Cream Cones and Champagne Gummy Bears. Robin's Egg Caramels: The caramels were the ones I was most eager to try, not only are they like crunchy coated chocolate eggs, they also contain a caramel filling! The chocolate is 43% cocoa dark chocolate, with the caramel filling being chewy and creamy. It tasted delicious! The contrast between chocolate, chewy carmel and crunchy candy shell is perfect, making these tasty but somehow more sophisticated than your average chocolates. They weren't thro...

Haribo Tangfastics Summer Frenzy Ice Cream & Sorbet Flavours

Image
There seems to be a new Haribo Limited Edition for every season nowadays; the last few Summers they had the Frenzy Editions , which I thought were returning again this year. But it seems not...instead we're getting these "Summer Frenzy" Tangfastics which contain Ice Cream & Sorbet Flavours, and Starmix Summer Frenzy with Berry Flavours . The ice cream flavours are Passionfruit, Mango, Bubblegum, Peach, Watermelon and Rhubarb & Custard... Whilst the Sorbet flavours are Peach and Guava, Mango & Passionfruit and Pink Grapefruit. Being honest I think this is quite a random mix of flavours for ice cream and sorbets...I mean when was the last time anyone bought a tub of watermelon ice cream? No matter, Haribo flavours are usually better in practice than on paper. There were lots of Rhubarb and custard "Cherries" in the bag, and as nice as they were they became a big boring after a while. They tasted quite similar to Haribo Rhubarb and C...

Haribo Little Cupcakes

Image
These Haribo Little Cupcakes have been sat there on the shelf in Tesco for a while now, annoyingly calling me to try them. Don't they know I already consume enough sugar to feed a small army?! I finally plopped them in my basket, in need of some weekend sweets. They cost 98p or so, are not suitable for vegetarians and implore you to "create your own delicious cupcake creations with a caramel or lemon biscuit base, finishing it off with either a blueberry, orange, lemon, cherry, vanilla or strawberry topping". Annoyingly, there were no strawberry toppings in my bag, boo! There also seemed to be an over-abundance of biscuit bases to toppings. I do love the idea of these I have to say. It's a lot of fun creating your own flavour combinations, and how cute do they look? The caramel biscuit bases had a strong sweet caramel flavour, with definite hints of biscuit, and they went perfectly with all the toppings I tried. The blueberry in particular was very...

Haribo Fairyland Review

Image
When I saw these new Haribo Fairyland I will admit the kid in me let out a squeal of excitement. Not only are they candyfloss flavoured, they come in wonderfully magical unicorn and fairy shapes. They're also for believers only...so put on your best unicorn hat, say a prayer to the fairies and believe...(Unicorns are real!) I found these in Tesco for just under £1 and they contain strawberry candyfloss and strawberry and cream flavour jellies, in unicorn and fairy shapes. Opening the bag they certainly had a magical, sweet aroma... The shapes are brilliant...the unicorn ones especially. There's 4 different ones in total. The candyfloss sweets had a definite candyfloss flavour with a hint of strawberry...it's hard to describe but it's very sweet and kind of comforting. The strawberries and cream ones were also very nice, again, sweet and comforting. After a few sweets I did find myself wanting something a bit sharper and citrusy to break up the f...

Haribo Minions: Bananaaa! & Ice Cream Flavours

Image
Somehow, Haribo Minions are a thing that have passed me by, but I'm aiming to correct that now. What lured me in with these was the promise of banana and ice cream flavours; something a bit different for jelly sweets. I found these in Tesco recently for just under a pound, along with a few other new Haribo sweets I'll be reviewing shortly. What makes these even more special is that one of the new flavours shares the same name as me! Yes, Kevin from Minions has the honour of being banana flavoured! The others are Blueberry Bob, Apple Stuart, Raspberry Dave and Cherry Jerry. Genius naming if ever there was. Some of the flavours also contain an ice cream flavour foam backing...yum! I tried the Banana Kevin flavour first, of course! It had a subtle banana flavour that complimented the ice cream foam quite nicely. It wasn't artificial tasting, thankfully. The Blueberry Bob flavour was also very nice, with a subtle blueberry flavour. Again, no artificial ...

Haribo Scaremix with Spooky Flavours Review

Image
Following on from my review of Haribo TangfasTricks , today we have the other new Haribo Halloween Limited Edition (although curiously it just says "new" rather than limited edition). Unlike TangfasTricks, this variety provides some new "spooky" flavours to chew on... Left to right: Toffee Apple Monster's Eyeball, Blackcurrant and Bubblegum Vampire Hearts, Blood Orange Witches Brew, Lime Boo Bear, Cherry Boo Bear, Blood Orange Boo Bear, Blood Orange and Apple Dracula Rings, Apple and Blackcurrant Dracula Rings & Blackcurrant and Blueberry Dracula Rings. The Blackcurrant and Apple rings were pretty good...a nice strong blackcurrant flavour with an apple tang. Boo Bears : Gummy bears will never be scary, whatever name you give them. Luckily the taste isn't either: this cherry one tastes great! The Blood Orange ones have a nice strong zesty tang, whilst the Lime ones have a nice citrus kick. The Toffee Apple Eyeballs were a little o...

Haribo TangfasTricks Halloween Limited Edition

Image
It's that time of year again, Halloween is just around the corner...so what better way to mark the occasion than some Limited Edition Haribo sweets. There's two out; Haribo Scaremix which I'll be reviewing soon, and TangfasTricks - a new version of Tangfastics that promises to be tangy, hot or super sour. Tangfastics are usually pretty sour and tangy anyway so I was curious how these would be different. The description on the pack reads "Fizzy fruit flavour, cola flavour and sweet foam gums with some hot or extra sour fruit, cola and sweet foam gums".  Unlike the new Haribo Scaremix, these didn't seem to have any different colours of sweets, it looked like a regular bag of Tangfastics.  There's the classic sour cola bottles... Sour cherries... Crocodiles... And of course, rings (or are they dummies! I never can tell!) Did they taste any different? Well to be honest not very much. Some of the ...

Haribo Tangfastics Frenzy Edition (New Flavours!) Review

Image
Whilst in Sainsbury's I spotted these new limited edition, or rather "frenzy edition" Haribo Tangfastics. (Many thanks to Katherine from Grocery Gems for alerting me to these - check out her review of the Starmix variety here!). As much as I enjoy Starmix I love the sourness of Tangfastics more so I held out until I could find this version. The flavours are all tropical and completely different to regular Tangfastics, and include passion fruit, mango & pineapple, grapefruit, peach, pomegranate, mango, watermelon and passion fruit & peach. What's odd is that the cherries are now pomegranate flavoured...I've never had a pomegranate cherry before! All these random flavours just add to the fun of course. The cola bottles now taste of watermelon, and along with the pomegranate cherries they seemed to make up most of the bag. They were very nice but I preferred the other flavours in the mix like mango, grapefruit and peach etc. This is definitely a ve...

Haribo Tangfastics Chamallows Review

Image
Whilst in Asda recently I spotted these new Tangfastics flavoured Chamallows. I love regular Haribo Chamallows, but was intrigued by how they would taste with a sour coating... Turns out they were extremely moreish...I couldn't get enough of them! The sour coating is the same one used in Haribo Tangfastics jellies, and made them even more addictive than regular marshmallows. I will admit, I ate a few too many at once! Overall, these Tangfastics Chamallows are extremely moreish and I'd highly recommend giving them a try if you like the softness of marshmallows and the sour tang of Tangfastics. They're a great match! RATING: 8.5 out of 10. Price : £1 at Asda. Suitable for vegetarians? : No. Allergy Information : Contains maize.

Bassett's Jelly Babies Berry Mix (Tesco Exclusive) Review

Image
Whilst at Tesco recently I found these new Jelly Babies Berry Mix, and like the Cadbury Eclairs Velvets Coffee Flavour they're a Tesco Exclusive. They're basically the berry flavours from regular Jelly Babies in their own bag...nothing all that new or exciting really. The babies have some odd names..."Brilliant", "Big Heart" and "Baby Bonny" and the flavours are blackcurrant, raspberry and what seems to be strawberry, although the ingredients also list apple so it's hard to tell. They tasted pleasant enough but not particularly "berry-ish", if there is such a word...just very sweet. To be honest I wasn't that enamoured with them, they were a bit one-dimensional without the green, yellow, orange etc jelly babies. I wanted some citrus flavours to liven things up a bit! Overall I felt these were a bit of a letdown, and a lazy way for Mondelez to repackage an existing product (which seems to be happening a lot recently...

Spotted In Shops! Irn Bru Ice Cream, Kitkat Cones, D'aim Ice Cream, Smarties Sharing Blocks & More!

Image
The supermarkets are currently gearing up for Summer and Tesco in particular have launched a whole new batch of frozen products...they had two whole freezers dedicated to new ice creams when I was in there recently! So today's Spotted In Shops features heavily on ice cream, as well as many other interesting products I've spotted while out and about... Barr Irn Bru Ice Cream Bars Yes, the famous Scottish drink that's "made from girders" has been transformed into frozen form! These are of course made by the "original and best" Iron Brew makers A.G Barr. I have to say it's great to see such a well-loved traditional fizzy drink evolve like this. I'll definitely be trying some of these when Summer arrives! Nestlé Kitkat Ice Cream Cones In more ice cream goodness there's these new Kitkat Cones. I say new, but I'm sure they've been available in the past. Still they sound ace and I can't wait to try them! D'aim Ice Cream...
