Kev's Pick & Mix! - Seabrooks Curry Crisps, Montezuma's Great British Pudding Bars, Hello Kitty Milkshake...

Image
Welcome to another edition of Kev's Pick & Mix: an assortment of mini snack reviews! All these snacks have been in my archive for a long time now...too long in fact, so I thought it about time I gave them the review treatment! Do let me know if you've tried any of these particular snacks via the comments... Seabrooks Chicken Karahi Curry Crisps Limited Edition: These Chicken Karahi Curry Crisps were developed by Seabrooks exclusively with Akbar's restaurants and available as a limited edition last year. They were tasty, although nothing groundbreaking as far as curry flavoured crisps go. 6 out of 10 . Marks & Spencer Golden Honeycomb Chocolate Crunch: I bought these along with the Snow Ball Crunch popcorn I reviewed last Christmas, and was very disappointed. When paying good money for M&S goods I expect top-notch quality, but unfortunately these were sickly sweet and very bog-standard as far as honeycomb and chocolate goes. Give me a Cadbury's...

Nestlé Wonka Crème Brûlée Bar Review

Image
At last, all the new Wonka bars are out in shops! This Crème Brûlée variety is unfortunately only available in large 100g blocks, but I found one in Tesco recently for £1.40. After my disappointment with the Millionaires Shortbread and Chocolate Nice Cream varieties I was hoping this bar would be the one gem of the three. And although it was much better than the other two, it's still not exciting enough to do the Willy Wonka name proud. It's described as simply "Vanilla creme with a caramel crunch" and has an eye-rolling rhyme on the pack: "This isn't the only Wonka bar, you'll find the others near and far; Millionaires Shortbread and Chocolate Nice Cream, they came to Wonka in a dream". The packaging has a rather cool resealing mechanism, with a Wonka tophat "peel here" sticker on the end: It can be peeled off, then the wrapper can the be folded over and resealed. This is handy for keeping the chocolate fresh should you wish to...

Nestlé Wonka Chocolate Nice Cream Bar Review

Image
At last...the new Nestlé Wonka bars have been released into the wild! I spotted this Chocolate Nice Cream variety in B&M Bargains for 69p, which is considerably less than the extortionate 90p I paid for the Millionaires Shortbread version I found in a newsagents last week. I bought two bars...just for reviewing purposes, you understand! I didn't open them soon as I'd bought them, though; instead I let them languish in the cupboard for a while. I suppose I wasn't too excited about trying them since I found the Millionaire's Shortbread variety so disappointing. When I had the munchies for something sweet I finally broke into one. The bars are described as "Smooth vanilla creme topped with chocolate sauce", with 30% of the bar being creme and 15% being sauce. Biting into a piece, I was first met with the vanilla creme. It tasted pleasant enough, with a decent vanilla taste, but was intensely sweet. It contained real vanilla seeds which gave it a...

Nestlé Wonka Millionaire's Shortbread Bar Review

Image
The relaunch of the Wonka brand in the UK was announced only a few weeks ago - to much controversy (apparently the calorie content in these bars could have a "devastating impact on children" !) - so I was very surprised to see these Millionaire's Shortbread bars in a newsagents recently. Oddly, they didn't have the "Chocolate Nice Cream" variety which was also supposed to be launched along with this bar. The bar is described as "Milk chocolate with a caramel filling (50%), containing biscuit pieces (6%)", and contains vegetable fat in addition to cocoa butter. It's quite thin and comes in 4 blocks which have the Wonka "W" printed on them. The press release  describes this bar as "Just like the classic sweet treat: it's the tasty combination of delicious caramel and shortbread pieces covered in smooth milk chocolate". What's confusing though is that this bar doesn't contain any caramel whatsoever - or at le...

Wonka Runts & Gobstoppers (at Poundland!)

Image
I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted packs of Nestlé Wonka Gobstoppers, Runts and Nerds in my local Poundland store. They're usually sold for very high prices at American import stores, so getting them for £1 was a real bargain! Fruit shapes! I declined to buy any Nerds because I've had plenty of them in the past and the smaller packs are already available at Morrisons. However Runts were a new one on me, I've never tried them before despite always seeing them in American import stores. They never really appealed to me for some reason, however what I never realized is that they come in little fruit shapes! How cool! It made me grin like a big kid when I shook a few out of the box to find strawberry, banana, orange, apple and grape shaped candies. This is what the UK has been missing out on in sweets all this time! Top banana The colours are insanely bright, so it comes as no surprise that they contain lots of e-numbers. But who cares, they're swe...
