Cadbury Darkmilk Chocolate Review

Cadbury Darkmilk Chocolate Review

It took a while but I've finally gotten around to trying the New Cadbury Darkmilk. This is available now from most supermarkets in an Original and Almond variety, and I found this Original one for £1.50 at Tesco Express - a bit more than I'd like to pay for Cadbury chocolate but hey, it's supposedly better quality so maybe it's worth it?!

The bar has been billed as a richer alternative for those who like chocolate that's both creamy and dark - a tough challenge it seems. The bar weighs in at 85g and contains a minimum of 40% cocoa solids, substantially more than Dairy Milk but less than a semi-sweet dark chocolate. The presence of milk is of course what sets this apart, hence the name Darkmilk!

I really wasn't too excited at the prospect of trying this; I was assuming it might be like the Milka Dark bars that Mondelez produce in other countries, which although aren't bad they're not what I really want from a bar like this.

But it took me by surprise! This tastes different from anything I've tried from Cadbury-Mondelez, it has a different flavour profile to Dairy Milk and other Cadbury chocolates and is pretty much what it sets out to be - a richer version of a milk chocolate bar! It's neither too milky or sweet like regular milk chocolate, nor is it just dark chocolate with a bit of milk added. I found the taste very moreish actually, and felt like I was eating something posh and definitely not something made by Cadbury! It didn't even have that greasy texture that Dairy Milk has, probably because it doesn't contain vegetable fat but rather, milk fat.

Would I buy this again? Actually, yes I would and that's saying something. It's a big step up from standard Dairy Milk and combines the best of both worlds. I do think they missed a trick by not going for a vegan option, since it's so trendy right now, and honestly many people just prefer to avoid dairy (if you're looking for a delicious and creamy vegan bar - do check out my review of Waitrose 1 Indian Ocean Coconut Chocolate. It's the best vegan "milk" chocolate out there, bar none!)

Overall then, if you've been curious about this new Darkmilk from Cadbury I would highly recommend giving it a try. Despite a lot of the things they've gotten wrong since Mondelez took over, this is one of those things they've done right!

Ingredients: sugar, cocoa mass, cocoa butter, skimmed milk powder, milk fat, emulsifier soya lecithin, natural vanilla flavouring. 14% milk solids, 40% cocoa solids.

  1. Interested to hear what in your view Mondelez has done wrong with Cadbury's since they took it over. Personally I think Mondelez has revitalized Cadbury with many impressive product launches.

    1. Moving production abroad and using a different recipe for Dairy Milk bars. They claim they didn't change it, but it was obvious to many chocolate fans. I don't mind the varieties so much (although there's far too many Oreo ones now).

    2. Heres the thing that nobody notices though - Mondelez can legally say they haven't changed the recipe of Dairy Milk if the quantities of the ingredients stays the same and the actual ingredients have stayed the same. However, what they've clearly done is kept the recipe the same but changed the quality of the ingredients - if they are now getting cheaper types of milk and cocoa and vegetable fat and palm oil, but still not changing the actual ingredients or quantities just the QUALITIES, they can say that the recipe hasn't changed even though it has - but legally they can say that the actual RECIPE hasn't changed. Mondelez have changed the taste of Dairy Milk by lowering the quality of the ingredients, but they haven't, I don't think, changed the recipe.

    3. Yeah, I kinda figured that out actually. The recipe remains the same but by moving the production to Poland (as they did) means using Polish milk, which may or may not taste the same as what they used previously.

    4. I suspect they changed from using a full cream milk to a very watered down milk, which is maybe what Polish milk is like - that way it still says "milk" on the ingredients and the recipe hasn't changed but the taste lowers drastically.

  2. As I understood it, it was ONLY the bars that DON@T say Dairy Milk on them that have a changed recipe. n’est-ce pas ?

    1. Probably true. As was said above though it's the source of the ingredients that has changed. In my book that equates to a recipe change!

  3. Kev, just got around to trying this after finding a 35g bar in Waitrose. It tastes like a Birds Eye Dark Chocolate Lovely dessert only less refreshing! I find it OK when you’re eating it but find has a sickly & cloying and overbearing aftertaste of cheap ingredients so would only buy it again if I wantd to slightly punish myself!

  4. That is because hair follicle drug tests can detect drugs in your hair samples for up to 90 days! And, no one who is looking to identify your drug-related habits would inform you about such a test three months in advance. So, a short-term sobering or detoxification would not help. Lice-treatment shampoos contain pyrethrins or pyrethrum extracts, along with piperonyl butoxide. Pyrethrins are essentially insecticides, and piperonyl butoxide enhances their potency. Unfortunately, no studies support the idea that either of these chemicals can effectively flush out drug metabolites from your hair shaft. 5. If you're looking for a delicious dark chocolate that isn't too bitter, then Cadbury Darkmilk is a great option. The chocolate has a rich flavor with hints of caramel and vanilla, and the bar is also filled with creamy milk chocolate. I really enjoyed the balance of sweet and savory flavors in this chocolate, and it's definitely one of my new favorite dark chocolates!

  6. So, those are some ways in which you can effectively rid your system of the traces of THC. If you have been following all of our aforementioned solutions carefully, you will likely have noticed that none of them are particularly difficult to execute or heavy on the pocket. And my point of view is parsing this data I advise buy, and I will clarify this notion. - gooodprgn. Moreover, they are either natural home remedies or store-bought products that contain only natural ingredients, which means they will not cause any serious side effects in the short or long run. Therefore, you do not have to worry about damaging your health when trying to eliminate THC from your body. You only need to focus on finding the best solution for you and sticking to it whenever you need to be THC-free.
