Haribo Rhubarb & Custard Splats Review

Whilst looking for Cadbury's Wispa hot chocolate in Tesco recently, I spied these Haribo Rhubarb and Custard Splats and couldn't resist giving them a try. I was never a huge fan of the original Rhubarb and Custard boiled sweets but this jelly version sounded a lot more to my taste.

I like Haribo jellies, especially Tangfastics, and these Rhubarb & Custard Splats really lived up to the intense fruity sourness you get from those. The only difference being the rhubarb and custard flavour, which is quite unique. There wasn't much of a custard element, just a sour-rhubarb-dominated taste, which suited me just fine because I don't like the idea of custard in sweets anyway! They were verrrrry addictive and it didn't take me long to demolish most of the bag. Texture-wise they were kind of soft and chewy, but not too chewy like some gummy sweets are.


Overall, if you like sour jelly sweets or rhubarb and custard boiled sweets, I would highly recommend these. The unique rhubarb flavour makes them stand out from other sour sweets and is very addictive.

Nutritional facts: Contains fruit and plant concentrates of elderberry, grape, aronia, blackcurrant, mango, orange, lemon and passionfruit (but oddly no rhubarb!).

    I don't like rhubarb or custard but I like rhubarb and custard sweets...yes I am probably a bit strange. Great find Kev, I need to get some of these!

      I can understand not liking rhubarb, but not liking custard? What's wrong with you?! Haha.
      I really recommend these, very addictive especially if you have a sweet tooth!

Asda Tinned Banana Blossom Review

Recently, I spotted a totally new vegetable/fruit (not sure which it actually is!) in Asda called Banana Blossom in a tin. It was next to the tins of Jackfruit which is a well known vegan meat alternative. I assumed it was a similar thing so happily bought some to try - it’s £1.50 a tin. The image on the wrapper looked innocent enough - battered fish pieces, only vegan! Surely this stuff must be good? Turns out that packaging was very misleading because nothing could prepare me for the horror that was lurking inside...when I opened the tin it was like opening something from a horror film, discovering the mouldy body of an ancient alien creature or other such evil. It looked hideous!! “Surely this is not meant for human consumption?!”, I thought. Heck it’s not even suitable for bird consumption....I think flies would even turn their nose up at this thing, which looked like rotten infested seaweed. Lidl Way To Go Fin Carre Ethical Chocolate

I recently spotted some new funky looking bars in Lidl, and instantly they reminded me of Tony’s Chocolonely bars, the ethical brand that launched last year donating money to helping end slavery in cocoa production. I’ve always loved the Tony’s brand and I think in 2020, more than ever, we need more ethically produced products - it should be expected, let’s be honest! So it’s always nice to see another brand like this even if it’s essentially copying Tony’s. I got the dark chocolate version to try as I was curious how it would be compared to other dark chocolates. In hindsight this was a mistake, as the actual chocolate is nothing extraordinary. It’s nice enough and good quality don’t get me wrong but it has no particular distinct flavour to make me buy it again. I’ll certainly try the other two flavours which are Milk Chocolate and Almond and Sea Salt, and I do like the chunky haphazard block design that mimics Tony’s Chocolonely.
