It's hard to find a good Gluten Free brownie, many of them are either too dry or conversely too fudge like. I've tried quite a few now and so far I like the Costa Gluten Free Brownie the best, but when I found these "Wonderfully Indulgent" Baked In Scotland, Specially Selected Gluten Free Brownies in Aldi (in Glasgow of all places!) recently I was super excited to try them. They're "hand crafted on the banks of Loch Ness with real Belgian chocolate" - how fancy! They cost £1.79 for 4 which is very reasonable compared to some gluten free brownies in shops. Opening the pack, they looked super squidgy and moist. I took a bite. The brownie was indeed very moist and squidgy, and very rich and chocolatey. These are super easy to eat, before I knew it I was onto my second piece! It's nice that they're squidgy rather than dry, but I did miss the more substantial texture of other brownies - I like a bit of bite to my brownies ( Costa's ...

Aldi do a fine range of food nowadays, you can find pretty much the same things as most larger supermarkets, and oftentimes better quality. I'm a fan of their fresh fruit and veg in particular. But they also do some quality British meats, and by chance I was sent a voucher to review some of their steaks recently. My Aldi didn't have some of the fancier cuts in stock but they did have these 21 Day Matured steaks in, of which I chose Ribeye. Not something I eat very often so I was pretty excited to try it! I cooked it under the grill, not bloody, not medium rare, but well done. That's how I like my steak! Despite being well done is was still very juicy and bursting with flavour. I have to say it's one of the best steaks I've had in a while, and beats the quality of stores like Tesco, whom I've tried Ribeye Steak from before and wasn't too impressed. The price point of these is also ideal - less than £4 - so you don't need to break the bank for some...

I don't know how Aldi manage to get away with making obvious clones of so many famous brands, but they are still at it so I won't judge. It makes the confectionery world a lot more interesting (and affordable) for those of us on tight budgets. The latest addition to their ever-expanding range are these new Dairyfine "Switch Ups" and "Mythicals" crunchy coated chocolate candies. The Switch Ups are clearly the same thing as Nestle's Vice Versas, with the brown ones containing white chocolate centres and the white ones containing milk chocolate centres. Sadly they didn't taste as good as Vice Versas. Vice Versas aren't great nowadays, but the white chocolate ones are at least decent. The white chocolate in Aldi's version is very flavourless, tasting mostly of sugar; no creaminess at all. They were just far far too sweet for me. 6 out of 10. The Mythicals are similar to a product Nestle used to make called Milkybar White Moments...

I teased it in my review of Aldi's Foodie Market Macadamia & Coconut Paleo Bars , and here it is finally; my review of the Brazil Nut & Cherry variety. Allow yourselves to get very excited! Like the Coconut variety, these come in packs of five and cost £1.99 - a bargain when compared to similar bars on the market! They're gluten free, dairy free and suitable for vegans as well as paleos, containing natural cold-pressed ingredients like brazil nuts, dates, cherries, and almond oil. These are somewhat similar to The Primal Pantry's Brazil Nut & Cherry bars , but actually a lot nicer. The bars are firmer, with a delicious and slightly tart cherry flavour, and a nice fresh earthy nuttiness from the brazils. They felt like a real treat indeed, without being too sugary or sickly sweet. They were also very satisfying and filling. Overall, out of the two varieties of Foodie Market Paleo Bars Aldi are doing these are a clear winner! Now I just need to try ...

It's always nice to get new white chocolate variations, especially if they involve coffee, so today's review is dedicated to none other than Aldi who brought out this Coffee & Cream Choceur white chocolate recently. They also do Coconut Crunch and White Crisp varieties, which I can't eat since they contain gluten. Boo! If you're a fan of the coffee chocolates from Merci this may be a bar you'll enjoy... The bar has a layer of coffee flavour milk chocolate on the bottom and a thicker layer of white chocolate above it. The blocks are very chunky indeed; just the way I like my chocolate! It tastes pretty good. The white chocolate is creamy and super sweet, although it somewhat overpowers the coffee milk chocolate layer. It's a nice bar but a bit too mild on the coffee front for my liking. Overall, not a bad variation from Aldi, but I'd definitely like to see a more upmarket version. Something like the coffee chocolate from Merci in bar form...

Aldi have launched a new range of snack bars inspired by The Paleo Diet, and not only are they gluten, dairy and refined sugar free they're suitable for vegans and vegetarians too. Making them very suitable for #Veganuary and the flexitarians amongst us! The bars are similar to The Primal Pantry's Paleo bars , only you get 5 bars per multipack for £1.99 - considerably cheaper than what Tesco charge for a multipack of three Primal Pantry bars at £2.99! This variety is made with ingredients like macamadia nuts, dates, coconut, and almond oil and is cold pressed, making it a raw bar too. There's slogans on the wrappers such as "Satisfaction for your inner caveman" and "Snacking like our forefathers"...I'm not sure cavemen really did sit around scoffing bars like this, but let's go with it! It's been a while since I bought the Choceur Salted Caramel Almonds , but when I got them I also bought a pack of these Spiced Chocolate Almonds. Ive been saving them until Christmas to review since they're more fitting for the festive season! The almonds are roasted and coated in a spiced milk chocolate, with a dusting of icing sugar. As you can see it's a bit messy and got all over The Hand...it wasn't best pleased! After all that mess you'd hope these would be worth it, right? Well unfortunately they weren't that great, at least to my tastebuds - the cardamon and cinnamon flavours just didn't go very well with milk chocolate, I feel they would have been far better suited to white chocolate. These were okay but the combination of spice and milk chocolate just doesn't mix at all. If you spot these in Aldi, I wouldn't bother with them - go for the Salted Caramel or Mascarpone White Chocolate Almonds instead, theyre far nicer! 6.5 ou...

Whilst in Aldi over the weekend I spotted a new range of festive chocolate coated almonds...there's some rather unique flavours like Mascarpone White Chocolate, Spiced Chocolate and these: Salted Caramel White Chocolate. I'll be reviewing the latter two shortly but I just had to start with these because although salted caramel is becoming too ubiquitous now, these taste amazing! They cost 99p at Aldi and are described as "Almonds covered in white chocolate blended caramel powder and salt". The fact that these are white chocolate as well as salted caramel is what really sets them apart from your average salted caramel product. The almonds were nice and chunky with a thick layer of the salted caramel white chocolate on each. Taking a bite, I was in heaven...it tastes like Caramac, or rather Salted Caramac, but much better quality! The flavour is creamy, sweet and caramelly with just the right hint of salt. As many of you may know (well those of us who review snacks as a hobby anyway) Cadbury's Easter products are a bit rubbish now. Creme Eggs no longer use Dairy Milk chocolate (and sales have fallen as a result), sizes have shrunk, vegetable fats have been added, and their Mini Eggs are now a code word for sugar bombs. Nevertheless they're still the gold standard for crunchy coated chocolate mini eggs, they've somehow managed to perfect this Easter treat. I still keep searching for something better quality though. I've tried the Chicky Choccy Mini Eggs from Marks and Spencer ( reviewed by Mrs One Treat here ), which were good quality but still lacked the "it" factor that makes Cadbury Mini Eggs so special. So the search has continued, and has led me to Aldi! These Dairyfine Mini Eggs are one of Aldi's "clones" of famous brands; Dairyfine is clearly supposed to be their version Dairy Milk, so I thought it'd be interesting to see how these...

Over Christmas I was lucky enough to make regular visits to Aldi, the perfect place for a quick late night cheap choccy fix, and whilst there I spotted these Dairyfine Milk Chocolate Caramel Buttons...which look suspiciously similar to Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel Nibbles! I mean, even the name Dairyfine is an obvious ripoff of Dairy Milk! I can't say I'm bothered though because Dairy Milk is a bit rubbish these days...but how does Aldi's version compare? Well, these Buttons cost a lot less than Cadbury Caramel Nibbles, I believe they were about 80p although I can't remember exactly. (For comparison the RRP for Cadbury Caramel Nibbles is about £1.99, although they're regularly on offer for £1) You get plenty in the bag too, no doubt more than the Cadbury version! They're shaped like...erm...nipples rather than buttons (come on, we were all thinking it!), they're slightly larger and chunkier than the Cadbury ones with a less scuffed appearance. S...

Whilst in Aldi recently I was browsing through the clearance section. Yes, Aldi has a clearance section, despite it already being a discount supermarket! One thing that caught my interest was this Winsenia Raspberry Flavour Popping Candy Spread. It's basically a creamy raspberry flavoured milk spread with the addition of popping candy. It sounded very unique, I don't think I've seen a flavour like this before. I assumed it would also contain white chocolate but the ingredients list doesn't mention cocoa butter at all. The spread was very pink and had a strong raspberry aroma. I first tried eating it with a spoon; it was very creamy and sweet, with a strong raspberry flavour. The popping candy wasn't too intense but definitely gave a nice crackling sensation. To get the full benefit I decided to spread some onto a rice cake (boring I know, but I was trying to be healthy!). It tasted very moreish...I think I ate a bit too much from the jar in one go! There hasn't been many exciting seasonal chocolates this year, hence I haven't had many to review. However when I learnt of the new seasonal Limited Editions available at Aldi recently I just had to try them! There's this Plum & Cinnamon flavour, plus Apple Strudel and Pear varieties. The Plum & Cinnamon variety is described as "Five individually wrapped bars of milk chocolate with a lightly whipped mousse filling, with a plum and cinnamon flavoured topping". It's a similar concept to the Panna Cotta Moser Roth bars I've reviewed previously, with a gooey plum layer above the smooth cream. The chocolate tasted very nice, if a little bit sweet. Initially I got hints of summer fruits, but as I let the chocolate melt on my tongue, subtle hints of cinnamon started to emerge. If I were doing a blind taste test I would never guess this was plum flavour; it just tastes generically fruity, but it works well with the cinnamon and milk cream and...

After hearing about how good Aldi's chocolates supposedly are I thought I'd give one a go this weekend and see what all the fuss is about. I've tried their Moser Roth range before and really enjoyed it, but this time I was tempted by this Rum & Raisin bar from their Choceur range. It's described as "Smooth milk chocolate with rum, raisins and hazelnuts". Rum and Raisin chocolates are quite hard to find these days - Cadbury's no longer make Old Jamaica, or at least I haven't seen it in years. I was hoping this would be a worthy replacement, but unfortunately it was pretty poor as rum flavoured chocolates go. In a nutsehll, it tasted cheap and sugary. It comes in quite thick blocks (no pic I'm afraid), and after eating a piece I found myself eating a few more just to try and get a "taste" of something... anything! When I heard about the new Summer Limited Edition Panna Cotta bars from Moser Roth I just had to find my nearest Aldi and track them down. I'm always moaning about the lack of interesting chocolate varieties we get from UK manufacturers so I was all the more excited to try these! The Limited Edition range comes in Blueberry, Raspberry and Passionfruit varities. I chose Blueberry and Passionfruit, although in hindsight wish I'd bought the Raspberry flavour too! The bars are described as "Milk chocolate with a lightly whipped creamy mousse, topped with a passion fruit flavoured filling". They're unique in that rather than being a single large block, the pack is comprised of 5 individually wrapped bars. This is a great idea because each one is the perfect size to savour all to yourself, plus the quality is so good that a single bar is really satisfying.
