I didn’t even know that Galaxy UK had stopped selling their Fruit & Nut variety until recently, when GB gifts announced they were getting some in. Apparently they haven’t been on shelves for a while now but I always just assumed they were still around. However I do have strong memories of trying them as a kid, in fact I had relatives who would buy the big blocks of them, back in the days when chocolate bars were still BIG. Whilst I came to love Cadbury Dairy Milk Fruit & Nut over the years, I did remember enjoying the Galaxy version for its creamy chocolate paired with fruit and nuts - a sweeter experience than Dairy Milk, but then Galaxy chocolate always has been (I think that may have changed in recent years). This version from GB Gifts, which is sourced from Galaxy Arabia like the Galaxy White Chocolate (why do they get all the best snacks?!) is pretty much the same as I recall although now comes in the sleek thin block design. For some inexplicable reason, Mars UK do Galaxy white hot chocolate, Maltesers white hot chocolate, and now they also do Galaxy white chocolate cookies! Unfortunately they don’t do *actual* bars of Galaxy white chocolate. Either they're trying to gauge demand for one (which already exists in Dubai !) or using the name to sell other products. I hope it's the former because that white chocolate Galaxy looks amazing. Fingers crossed! On to today's review then - these cookies are currently new and exclusive to Asda for £1 a pack. They come with about 8 cookies per pack that smell super buttery and golden - I knew these were gonna be good! And they were delicious! They were somehow more creamy and milky than a run of the milk white chocolate cookie, although didn't have butter in the ingredients but they did have whey powder, so I'm presuming whey was added to the cookie mix as well as the white chocolate chunks. Since the Cadbury Darkmilk surprised me with how nice it was, I thought I'd review one of its new competitiors in the form of this Galaxy Darker Milk. The name itself amuses me - it's almost a sly implication that it's darker and thus better than Darkmilk. But is it? Firstly, it contains very different ingredients to Cadbury Darkmilk. The cocoa solids are 33% (much less than Darkmilk's 40%) and the ingredients contain lactose and whey protein, as well as palm fat. The Cadbury Darkmilk is already ahead of the game in that respect since it doesn't contain palm fat. Firstly I have to say I like the block design of this bar - it's sleek and curved and a lot nicer than the Darkmilk. The 110g bars are available from Tesco and Asda now for around £1.50, and there's also a Hazelnut variety. Unfortunately it has a very odd taste. A big thankyou to McVitie's Cakes who sent me this Galaxy Cake Bar Selection Cracker to review recently. It just turned up one morning unexpectedly...always a nice surprise to receive snacks! The Cracker is especially designed for the festive season, containing 11 mini Galaxy cake bars and is available from B&M and Tesco stores. The selection consists of Galaxy Salted Caramel cakes, Galaxy Caramel cakes, Orange cakes and Chocolate cakes. The salted caramel variety contains chocolate sponge cake with a layer salted caramel sat above it - what a delicious combination! Definitely the best from this box, with a nice balance of buttery, salty caramel, moist cake and smooth chocolate. The Caramel cake bar contains smooth caramel and is just as delicious as the salted caramel variety, with sweeter caramel if you prefer that over salted. It's just as delicious and a classic treat. When these new Trail Mixes containing Bounty, Galaxy and M&M's first came out I was eager to try them...until I saw the price. For 25g of fruit, nuts and chocolate they cost nearly 80p in The Co Op which is just too much. Luckily, one of my local stores had them all reduced to just under 20p recently on clearance, so I nabbed a few packs. The Bounty variety contains a mix of golden raisins, dried pineapple, milk chocolate, tropical flavour sultanas and sweetened coconut. A bit of a tenuous link to Bounty bars...but I'll let them off. They're suitable for vegetarians. The mixture was quite pleasant, it definitely had a nice tropical fruity vibe and all the fruits mixed well with the chocolate. The problem was, there just wasn't enough chocolate! I know these are meant to be healthy but c'mon...if it's labelled as Bounty you expect a decent amount of chocolate. There were just a few small drops, like the ones you can buy for making cookies with. Nice...
