Nestlé Rowntree's Randoms Tandems

Image
Whilst in Tesco recently I spotted yet another new product from Rowntree's Randoms (they've already launched Sweet 'N' Sour  this year) which left me a bit puzzled - there's no indication on the pack as to what "tandems" actually means. At first it made me think of those old tandem bicycles, but then I remembered it's a word also used to describe two things arranged one after the other. So, I'm guessing these sweets are supposed to be arranged in pairs. Opening the pack I decided to try and pair them up and see if they made any kind of sense, although since they're called Randoms I suspected they wouldn't! There were two cute tortoises that went together nicely... A castle turret and what appears to be... a skyscraper? An old fashioned ghetto blaster and someone wearing eye goggles... A palm tree and a hot air balloon... There were other shapes too such as a paintbrush and what appeared to be a mushroom. I've probably ...

Baked Kitkats?!, Peanut Lion Bar for the UK & Ben & Jerry's Toffee Apple YUM-ble - Kev's Snacks News

Image
Welcome to the first edition of Kev's Snacks News!  I'm always scouring snacks websites for cool new snacks so thought it about time I did my own News Roundup! Baked Kitkat from Japan! Kitkat you can bake! The big snacks news this week was of course the launch of the world's first Baked Kitkat by Nestlé Japan. It was created by Japanese chocolatier Takagi and can be eaten as a bar, or oven-baked in just 2 minutes (try outdo that, Aunt Bessie!). Once baked it becomes "like a crispy cookie", and is available in original chocolate and mini pudding varieties. Unfortunately, it won't be available in the UK and I wouldn't recommend trying to replicate it by putting a regular Kitkat in the oven! Would you like to try a Baked Kitkat? Let me know in the comments! Nestlé to launch Peanut Lion Bar in the UK! The Peanut Lion Bar has been available in Polish stores for ages (see a  review here by The Snack Review) but now  Nestlé will officially la...

E Wedel WW Wafer Bar - Polish Kitkat copycat!

Image
A big thankyou to Bring Back Banjo Chocolate Bar who sent me this Polish "WW" wafer bar recently! It's made by Wedel, one of the most popular chocolate brands in Poland, and is clearly copying the concept of another famous 4-finger wafer bar... Yes, we all know which one! I was really excited to try this and see how it compared to the iconic wafer bar that is Kitkat ... but as I suspected it was a poor imitator. Opening the wrapper revealed a very familiar looking bar - the size and design is pretty much identical to a Kitkat, save for the "WW" printed on each finger. It smelled very pleasant and chocolatey. Splitting it open revealed much lighter wafers than those in a Kitkat - they're a lot less crunchy and compact, but with a slightly thicker layer of milk chocolate. Taste-wise the chocolate was sweet and milky, with the wafer providing a light wheaty crunchiness. The bar made for a pleasant snack with a cup of tea...but was nowhere ...

Hotel Chocolat Cocoa Juvenate Revive Body Butter Review

Image
Today's review is a bit of a departure for Kev's Snack Reviews...my blog description has always said that I may feature products that aren't edible, and that day has finally come! When Hotel Chocolat contacted me to review their Cosmopolitan Award Winning  Cocoa Juvenate Revive Body Butter for Mother's Day recently, I couldn't say no! I've never really used anything other than a basic moisturizer before, but the idea of one containing cocoa butter had me intrigued... The body butter arrived in a lovely bag complete with a ribbon and envelope with my name on...making me feel very special indeed! Opening the bag revealed a box containing the body butter...which contains West Indian cocoa butter and Morrocan argan oil to nourish and soothe the skin. The tub is quite hefty which felt reassuring...no danger of it running out quickly! Opening the lid the butter smelled very fruity and pleasant...I'm not sure how else to describe it really, but it ...

New! UK Skittles Wild Berry Review

Image
When I heard these Wild Berry flavour Skittles were being launched in the UK I was very excited to try them, especially as I remembered they were also available in the early 2000's in some kind of trial format. I ate them regularly in medium-sized bags at the time and became rather addicted; once they disappeared I thought they were gone for good! Luckily they've now been launched in the UK on a permanent basis - hurrah! The flavours consist of Raspberry, Strawberry, Wild Cherry, Berry Punch & Melon Berry. Taste-wise they were all fantastic, extremely fruity and chewy and with a perfect mixture of berry flavours. I loved the cherry and melon (is melon even a berry?!) flavours the most but all of them made for a lovely mix. Overall, a great product that I hope will stick around this time! RATING: 8 out of 10. Price : 49p at Asda. Suitable for vegetarians?: Yes. Allergy Information: Soybean oil, e-numbers. Nutrition (per 55g): 222 Calories, 2.3g Fat, 49.6g S...

Meine Milka: Milchcreme & Honig (Milk Cream and Honey) Bar Review

Image
Whilst browsing Farm Foods (of all places!) recently I came across this bar of "Meine Milka - Milchcreme and Honig". It's described as "NEU - nur fur kurze zeit", which roughly translates from German as "New, only for a limited time". I'm not sure if it's old stock from last year or intended for this year in the German market but was still a good 5 months in date, and for only 50p I really couldn't say no! The filling is of course milk cream and honey, and on opening the wrapper I was met with a strong sweet honey aroma. The chocolate had a distinctive "European" smell with a slight hint of hazelnut. Cutting it in half revealed the cream centre with a portion of honey on top of each block. It was quite sticky and more of a sauce rather than real honey - presumably it'd been mixed with some kind of sugar syrup. Taste-wise the bar was very lovely - extremely creamy and sweet thanks to the layer of milk cream, an...

Poppets Strawberry Milkshake & Reese's Pieces - Double Review!

Image
Whew...life has been hectic lately and I've had barely any time for blog reviews! I thought it about time I crack down and do some though since my friend Bring Back Banjo Bar kindly sent me some snacks recently! Here are a few from the haul she sent me... Paynes Poppets Strawberry Milkshake: First up are these strawberry milkshake flavour poppets from Paynes confectionery. I always loved Poppets as a kid, especially the raisin, toffee and orange varieties...so was excited to try these! They were nice enough but extremely sweet and sugary, and without much chocolate flavour. They're ok as a quick snack but there's better strawberry flavoured chocolates out there. 6 out of 10. Reese's Pieces: Next up are Reese's Pieces. I first tried these years ago and remember thinking how rubbish they were, considering they're meant to be like a Reese's version of Smarties or M&M's. They're so bland and pointless and only taste mildly of peanu...
