Toad-Ally Snax Birthday Cake Popcorn

When I spotted this "Birthday Cake Popcorn" in Discount UK/Bargain Buys the other day I got super excited...until I read the ingredients and saw it was full of additives and colourings. But my curiosity started gnawing away at me (as it always does with things like this!) and I decided I just had to try it...in the name of Snacks Science!

This costs £1 a bag and is made by Toad-Ally Snax, one of the oddest company names I've heard in a while...it's a company originating from Bristol, PA (that's Bristol in Pensylvania, not Britain!). You get 85g popcorn per bag and it's described as "white chocolate drizzled birthday cake flavoured popcorn". It's also got baking sprinkles all over it too (complete with food colourings that "may have an adverse effect on attention in children").


I poured the popcorn into a bowl, it had a very sweet aroma, more so than most white chocolate does. Suspiciously reading the ingredients list, I found that it's "fake" white chocolate made up of palm oil, whey, vanilla and birthday cake flavour (how on earth can you make birthday cake into a flavouring anyway?)


I scooped up a small handful and took a bite...wow, this is very sweet, but addictive popcorn! I don't know if it was the birthday cake flavour or the sprinkles, but it was like popcorn crack...seriously, seriously addictive! The crunchiness from the sprinkles and the popcorn, combined with the sweetness of the vanilla birthday cake coating is simply the perfect combination.


What can I say...I'm so glad I caved in and tried this popcorn, it's super sweet and sickly and full of colourings, but it's also highly moreish and addictive and may just be one of the best new snacks around. Forget your low calorie, wholegrain "healthy" popcorns and go for this instead...you won't be sorry!

    Very weird. My sin said they are are toadally disgusting! But yes very addictive lol.

Cadbury Dream Ice Creams - back for Summer! (UK)

If you've sorely missed Cadbury Dream White Chocolate since it was withdrawn from UK shelves many years ago, fear not, it's going to be back for Summer, albeit in a colder form - yes, ice cream! Dream Ice Creams have been in shops sporadically for several years now (including a Strawberry variety that was exclusive to Farmfoods) but finally they're getting an official release just for the Summer, yay! It will be sold in major supermarkets in packs of three, and impulse sticks will cost £1.80 from convenience stores. Maybe Cadbury are testing the waters to see how popular they are...who knows, maybe the proper Cadbury Dream bar may be resurrected if sales are good! You can already find Cadbury Dream ice creams in Fultons Foods , a Northern based frozen food store if you're lucky enough to live near one (there's a store finder in the link above). Asda Tinned Banana Blossom Review

Recently, I spotted a totally new vegetable/fruit (not sure which it actually is!) in Asda called Banana Blossom in a tin. It was next to the tins of Jackfruit which is a well known vegan meat alternative. I assumed it was a similar thing so happily bought some to try - it’s £1.50 a tin. The image on the wrapper looked innocent enough - battered fish pieces, only vegan! Surely this stuff must be good? Turns out that packaging was very misleading because nothing could prepare me for the horror that was lurking inside...when I opened the tin it was like opening something from a horror film, discovering the mouldy body of an ancient alien creature or other such evil. It looked hideous!! “Surely this is not meant for human consumption?!”, I thought. Heck it’s not even suitable for bird consumption....I think flies would even turn their nose up at this thing, which looked like rotten infested seaweed.
