Cadbury Dairy Milk Marvellous Mix-Ups with Maynards (Vegetarian) Jellies Review

Hot on the heels of Marvellous Mix-Ups with Oreo, today I'm reviewing Marvellous Mix-Ups with Maynards. Unlike the Oreo version this is more unusual in that it contains jelly sweets...with chocolate! Marvellous Creations are known for their jelly and chocolate combinations, of course; (Jelly Popping Candy and Cola Pretzel Honeycomb) so this comes as no surprise. In a way I suppose you're getting the best of both worlds with a product like this - it saves the bother of deciding between sweets or chocolate when you need a snacks fix! (we've all had that dilemma, right?)

The bag contains Dairy Milk Caramel Nibbles, Fudge Dreams and Maynards jellies. I'm not sure which jellies specifically as they aren't Wine Gums or Jelly Babies...just different fruit-flavoured jellies in fruit shapes. The Fudge Dreams are the same as those found in Cadbury's Milk Tray, although this isn't highlighted on the pack.

Opening the bag I was a little sad at the small amount in front of me. There was no way I was going to share them!

They were a little awkward to eat by the handful as the fudge pieces are rather chunky, but I did manage to eat some of them all together and they were very tasty indeed. The fudge was buttery and smooth, with the Caramel Nibbles adding further buttery caramel elements and then...the jellies added a burst of fruitiness. They were a bit odd combined with the caramel and fudge flavours but somehow it worked. It's not the perfect synergy of flavours like Marvellous Mix Ups with Oreo, but it's certainly very tasty.

The addition of the Fudge Dreams is the real highlight, as it's not often you get chocolates from a box like Milk Tray in bagged form. In fact it makes me think they should launch a bagged version of Milk Tray... or even the Milk Tray Bar from the 80's! (here's a pic:)

Back on topic, overall I thought this was an interesting "mix-up" of sweets although I do think many people will find the inclusion of the jellies a bit odd. To be honest though the bag is worth buying just for the Fudge Dreams!

    2. i had them the other day and found them similar to the wellington boots you used to get in a 10p mix in the 80's which i used to love, no one i ask seems to remember them and ive tried describing them as the texture is different to ordinary jellies the wellies used to have a floury dusting as well and theyre more sticky chewy than ordinary jellies, im trying all the different maynards now trying to find them on their own without the chocolate and they aint wine gums or discovery patch body bits lol

  2. I was also disappointed by the amount in the bag and emailed Cadbury to put this point across. The back could have been 1/4 of the size and still had room in the one that I got. I was expecting something like whispa bites or buttons which have loads in. Plus the caramel seems to leak onto everything else and make them all sticky and the bag sticky inside. The Jellys were the higlight of this product.

    1. Yes they've been a bit stingy haven't they! Maybe it's because the contents in this one cost more to produce so they have to put less in?

    2. If everyone stops buying these sweets Cdburys will get the message and actually add some sweets to the over sized bag

  3. I've managed to get through several bags of the Marvellous Mix Ups since discovering them this week. My favourite is the Oreo one, though I did notice that on several bags of it there have been a lot of crumbs in the bottom and coating the Oreo cream (not normally a problem in sharebags). I saw a review on another site mentioning that the Maynards ones were messy to eat in the warm weather - I found the opposite! I'm vegetarian and have never really liked them anyway so I don't know the last time I ate a jelly sweet. Surprisingly I did enjoy these, even if there were too many and not enough fudge/nibbles for my liking. The taste combinations on both bags seemed to work, though evidently on the Oreo one more than this judging by the number of packets in the wastepaper basket...... (Incidentally any thoughts on why the Oreo pack is foil lined and the Maynards isn't?)

    1. Thanks for the comment Matt, no idea why one of them is foil lined, I can't say I noticed that. Maybe it's to stop Oreo crumbs escaping or something?

    2. the oreo one will be foil lined to keep the oreos from going stale, not a problem for chocolate and jelly
