Magnum Marc De Champagne Ice Cream Bars with a silver coating! - Review

celebrating 25 years of pleasure, the new silver coated marc de champagne flavour Magnum ice cream

Imagine my surprise when I spotted this box of silver-coated "Marc De Champagne" Magnum ice creams in Tesco recently...I wasn't expecting it at all! Magnum have already done a gold version before of course (see The Impulsive Buy's review) so I guess silver was just the next logical step. This one is to celebrate "25 Years of Pleasure", so what better way to do it than with a champagne-flavoured silver Magnum!

For £2.99 you get three Magnums which are described as "Marc de Champagne ice cream with Marc de Champagne sauce (7%), coated in milk chocolate (24%) and an outer silver colour coating (5%)". The total alcohol content is only 0.5% so don't expect to get tipsy on these!

Opening one revealed a silver Magnum with a pale, almost metallic look, which was slightly unnerving. I felt like I was about to bite into space food or something!

Taking a bite, I was met with a delicious marc de champagne flavour. It tasted subtle and didn't overpower the creaminess of the ice cream, which is good since I don't like strongly flavoured alcohol products. The sauce was nice and there were several streaks of it running through the ice cream, although I would have liked more. The chocolate coating topped everything off nicely and although the silver part didn't add any flavour, it looked really cool and made me imagine I was eating weird futuristic food...

Overall I think these silver Magnums are a definite success - they taste great and look really cool, and are a nice way to celebrate 25 Years of Magnum. I hope Unilever continue with this line of innovation - maybe we'll get a rainbow-coloured Magnum next!

    3. Marc du Champagne is a kind of brandy, not a Champagne:-)

    4. nice, just tried one
but not as good as the current (I think "limited edition") pistachio ones, The green is disturbingly vivid, but they taste amazing.

  2. These look fantastic! They remind me of the awesome Mini Medals themed ice creams that Sainsbury's did during the Olympics. They were gold, silver and bronze coloured. It's a shame that these Magnums are champagne flavoured though, that doesn't appeal to me at all!

  3. These look fab but unfortunately all Walls products are unsuitable for veggies because of the whey used but great review! I am very jealous :D

  7. Just had one now, loved it. It tastes like Marc de Champagne rather than Champagne, but the balance is perfect, as I tend to dislike it when it's overpowering like in chocolate truffles.

  8. You're lucky Kev we don't get cool things like that here in Canada! I have to spend a small fortune on shipping even if the products are a good price when I buy from other countries (although I wont be ordering any more cote d'or chocolate), I could try to ship a box here but I don't know how they would fair in the mail ;o)

  9. They do look lovely, but I didn't enjoy them. While the Marc Du Champagne is certainly a nice flavour, I found it too strong and the aftertaste is a akin to vomit.

  18. As you'd expect from Unilever the chemical company, all of the brands they absorb exhibit the same divorced from taste, disgusting characteristics.

Walls, Viennetta, Carte D'OR, Magnum etc. all exhibit the same frozen foam blandness, whipped full of air to bulk out volume, absense of anything Dairy, let alone cream, artificial sweetness and a strange chemical oilyness.

They rely on marketing and hangover buying habits from pre buyout days when they may have contained more wholesome products that actually had a taste. Just how long can they fool the public into continuing to buy this pap.

Everytime I forget and accidentally buy or I'm given any of these horrendous frozen antifood products, I wonder why there's not a warning on the label, if accidentally swallowed immediately seek medical help.

Please stop buy this crap or they'll continue making it!

  20. This ice cream is not made from champagne but marc de champagne - it's a brandy at the end of the day - nothing to do with champagne. You really need to research what you are writing about - you must have being paid to write your review! The silver coating in my opinion and my friends was really off putting and the taste was awful.

    1. I certainly wasn't paid to write it. I am a snacks blogger, not a wine expert and would never have known there's a difference between champagne and marc de champagne. But thanks for rudely informing me.

    2. In fact I stated in my review that it is marc de champagne.

  22. I had these in France and they were amazing. Best Magnum flavour ever. What a shame they aren't sold any more. It was just so different and unique. It was like have a lovely vanilla-choc ice cream followed by the excitement of a hint of Brandy-Champagne flavour. Alas I'm going to have to go learn how to make my own ice cream now.

  24. This shampoo combined with Ultra Clean can produce great results. The Old Style Aloe Toxin shampoo needs to be used every day, at least 15 times, right up to the test. In cases of short notice, you would need to take multiple showers and let the shampoo stay for at least 15 minutes. However, it is most effective if you have about a week in hand.Usage TipsWhile rinsing your hair, direct your fingers mostly towards the scalp. It contains cleansing ingredients that penetrate your hair follicles and eliminate marijuana
