Poundland Twin Peaks Caramel Crunch Review

Image
Despite being a knock-off of Toblerone, Poundland's Twin Peaks bar has now racked up quite a number of varieties...there's everything from Milk Chocolate , White Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Fruit and Nut...and there was even a Honeycomb flavour. It seems however that Honeycomb has made way for this new variety - Caramel Crunch (at least, they didn't have Honeycomb in Poundland when I spotted this). It sounds a bit like Daim crossed with Toblerone, doesn't it? The description certainly made it sound as such: "Milk chocolate with caramel, almond and honey nougat pieces". It comes in a vibrant, eye-catching red wrapper which is the only reason I noticed it nestled amongst all the other Twin Peaks bars. The block design is a bit different from Toblerone - probably to protect it from infringing copyright - and honestly doesn't look as cool. It's supposedly inspired by the Wrekin and Ercall hills which are based in Shropshire. But we all know what it...

Daim Limited Edition Orange (Poundland)

Image
It was only a year ago now that I reviewed the Limited Edition Orange Daim Minis , and those were only in Poundstretcher for a limited time. Now Daim Orange is available again as a limited edition in regular sized bars in three packs, from Poundland. Hurrah! I don't know if these are an official UK launch or imports, but they do list the UK Cadbury website on the pack so I'm guessing they must be official. Described as "Orange flavoured milk chocolate with a crunchy almond caramel centre", there's 3 x 28g bars per pack. They had the same chocolate orange aroma as the Daim Minis did, and I couldn't wait to get stuck in! They tasted glorious! Lovely creamy orangey milk chocolate, with the crunchy almond caramel centre making them super duper moreish. As much as I enjoyed the Daim Minis last year, I think this bar form is much better - it's more satisfying and feels like just the right amount in one go. Not that it didn't stop me from reaching...

Daim Orange Minis Limited Edition

Image
Whilst in Poundstretcher recently I couldn't help but notice a plethora of imported chocolates, from the likes of Marabou with Oreo , Marabou with Saltlakrits (Salty Liquorice) and these...Limited Edition Orange flavour Daim Minis. They were £2.99 a bag which I felt was a bit pricey, but I caved in and got them anyway. I had to...they're a limited edition! Mondelez have had a track record for messing up some of our beloved UK products, but thankfully it seems their meddling hasn't extended to their classic Swedish brand Daim (yet!). These bars contain 30% cocoa chocolate, and are described as "smooth orange flavoured milk chocolates with a surprisingly crunchy almond centre". They're suitable for vegetarians and gluten free. They tasted like the offspring of a Terry's Chocolate Orange and a Daim Bar...which is a good thing! The chocolate is pretty much the exact same sweet, orangey flavour as Chocolate Orange (before they made the recipe waxy...

Daim Ice Cream Sticks Review

Image
No visit to the seaside would be complete without ice cream, and since I can't have regular cone ice creams due to gluten allergy I decided to make do with these new Daim ice cream sticks instead. I've had my eye on these ever since they first appeared in Morrisons, but with an RRP of £2.49 I found them a bit too pricey. However they were reduced to £1.49 so I couldn't say no! There's 3 sticks per box, each one weighing 71g. They're described as "Caramel ice creams with milk chocolate coated caramel and almond pieces, covered in milk chocolate with almond-caramel pieces". So there's bits of Daim in both the ice cream and the chocolate coating! By the time I opened the box the ice creams were very soft, so much so that in the above pic the ice cream was nearly ready to break in half! Taking a bite, I was met with a nice soft ice cream with a satisfying caramel flavour. There were some Daim pieces mixed in, giving it a nice crunch, but not quite...

Green & Black's THIN Salted Caramel Milk Chocolate

Image
When I first heard about these new "THIN" bars from Green & Blacks/Mondelez I had to laugh..."how are they going to sell thinner chocolate?!", I scoffed. Turns out I shouldn't have been so skeptical...this is  seriously delicious chocolate and nicer than any G&B bar I've had before. They're a bit late jumping on the "salted caramel" trend, but better late than never I guess! The bar is described as "Organic milk chocolate with salted caramel pieces". The salt is apparently anglesey sea salt, and the chocolate contains an impressive 37% cocoa solids. The bar was indeed "thin", although no more than a standard Lindt bar so I'm not sure why G&B are playing it up so much. It tasted amazing though! The caramel pieces were very reminiscent of Daim; extremely crunchy and moreish, with an added lick of salt. The chocolate is richer than an average milk chocolate thanks to the higher cocoa percentage. I...

Milka & Daim Ice Cream Review

Image
Whilst in a local discount frozen food store recently I spotted some tubs of Milka ice cream. I've already tried the UK Daim Ice Cream but wondered if this version with Milka might be different. It certainly looked it; it contains a marbled effect with chocolate ice cream with Daim pieces and vanilla ice cream with Daim pieces. The texture of the ice cream was rather light and moussey, as oppposed to the more dense ice creams from the likes of Haggen Dazs or Ben and Jerry's. It reminded me of Carte D'or. It tasted very nice...and surprisingly, I found the vanilla portion to be the nicest part. The creaminess complimented the crunchy Daim pieces perfectly, whereas they got a bit lost in the chocolatey flavour of the chocolate portion. Overall, this was a very tasty ice cream and one that's very easy to eat thanks to the soft texture. I actually preferred it over the UK's Daim Ice Cream . This one appears to be made in Germany and imported so isn't...

Mint Daim Bar (Limited Edition) Review

Image
Today's review is thanks to one of my kind readers, Vicky, who recently visited Sweden and picked up a new Limited Edition Mint Daim bar for me. We don't usually get limited edition Daim varieties in the UK (although there were briefly some Cola and Orange flavours!), but a little research reveals there's been lots of Daim limited editions in its native Sweden - Dark and White Chocolate , Forest Fruits "Summer Dream" , Lemon-Lime "Cool Breeze" , Cappuccino ,...and even Daim Ice Cream Bars ! Maybe there's no demand for all these things in the UK. What do you think, readers...would you like to see more Daim varieties on shelves? Back to this mint flavour...inevitably, the bar has shattered in the post, which isn't surprising as it's longer than the Daim bars we get in the UK. It smelled intensely of mint, in fact it reminded me of Murray Mints and Mintoes - those butter mints that are often popular with grannies. And that's kind of...

Daim Ice Cream Tub (UK) Review

Image
I've been eyeing up this D'aim Ice Cream for quite a while now, and finally decided to give it a whirl when I spotted it for £3 in Morrisons. It's described as "D'aim flavour ice cream with D'aim pieces" which basically means caramel flavour ice cream with bits of D'aim mixed in. Opening the lid it didn't have a particularly strong caramel aroma, but it looked pleasant enough with plenty of D'aim pieces. It tasted pretty good, the ice cream was creamy and sweet and with a nice burnt sugar caramel flavour. It wasn't quite as great as the likes of Ben and Jerry's or Haagen Dazs caramel ice creams but it was good enough. The D'aim pieces added a much welcome crunch and went with it really well. I wasn't particularly blown away by it, though; but that's because I'm used to buying Haagen Dazs when it's on offer, so this inevitably seemed sub-par in comparison. As it is it's a nice enough ice cream, just no...

Spotted In Shops! Irn Bru Ice Cream, Kitkat Cones, D'aim Ice Cream, Smarties Sharing Blocks & More!

Image
The supermarkets are currently gearing up for Summer and Tesco in particular have launched a whole new batch of frozen products...they had two whole freezers dedicated to new ice creams when I was in there recently! So today's Spotted In Shops features heavily on ice cream, as well as many other interesting products I've spotted while out and about... Barr Irn Bru Ice Cream Bars Yes, the famous Scottish drink that's "made from girders" has been transformed into frozen form! These are of course made by the "original and best" Iron Brew makers A.G Barr. I have to say it's great to see such a well-loved traditional fizzy drink evolve like this. I'll definitely be trying some of these when Summer arrives! Nestlé Kitkat Ice Cream Cones In more ice cream goodness there's these new Kitkat Cones. I say new, but I'm sure they've been available in the past. Still they sound ace and I can't wait to try them! D'aim Ice Cream...

Cadbury Dairy Milk with D'aim Bar Review

Image
When Cadbury/Mondelez UK announced they were launching this new Dairy Milk with Daim bar, it didn't surprise me all that much. Dairy Milk is a much more well-known brand here in the UK and so it made sense they would axe the existing Milka with Daim in favour of a Dairy Milk version. It's a shame, but that's the way the snacks world works I guess! This bar comes in a 120g format, which is the same size as the Dairy Milk with Oreo bar launched last year. It's described on the wrapper as "Milk chocolate with crunchy almond caramel pieces (20%)". The almond caramel pieces being, of course, Daim pieces. It tasted pretty much like I expected - delicious! Dairy Millk chocolate always tastes good, but the addition of the moreish Daim pieces made it even better and highly munchable. I loved how crunchy they were - each block is just filled with their tasty, crunchy goodness! Compared to Milka with Daim , there's a few things which make the ov...
