Lidl Way To Go Fin Carre Ethical Chocolate

Image
I recently spotted some new funky looking bars in Lidl, and instantly they reminded me of Tony’s Chocolonely bars, the ethical brand that launched last year donating money to helping end slavery in cocoa production. I’ve always loved the Tony’s brand and I think in 2020, more than ever, we need more ethically produced products - it should be expected, let’s be honest! So it’s always nice to see another brand like this even if it’s essentially copying Tony’s. I got the dark chocolate version to try as I was curious how it would be compared to other dark chocolates. In hindsight this was a mistake, as the actual chocolate is nothing extraordinary. It’s nice enough and good quality don’t get me wrong but it has no particular distinct flavour to make me buy it again. I’ll certainly try the other two flavours which are Milk Chocolate and Almond and Sea Salt, and I do like the chunky haphazard block design that mimics Tony’s Chocolonely. It’s a shame through that Lidl don’t just stock...

Graham's Salted Caramel Ice Cream Review

Image
Thankyou to Graham’s Family Dairy for sending me some of their new ice creams to review recently. The range is available now from Lidl stores and consists of the ones I’ve previosuly reviewed - Espresso Caramel and White Chocolate & Raspberry , plus this; Salted Caramel! Ahh you can’t beat Salted caramel and ice cream together, am I right?! These ice creams are lower in calories and sugar and higher in protein than most regular varieties and somewhat similar to Halo Top, although I think they’re a lot tastier and richer. They use a mix of sweetener and real sugar, thus reducing the sugar content but not totally removing the flavour. The ice cream has a nice rippled effect that looks lovely on opening the tub... And it tastes lovely too! These ice creams are just so creamy for a lower calorie version; with the sauce being plentiful and tasting authentic too. It’s a great combination and I thoroughly enjoyed this, and didn’t even think about it being lower calorie as it’s s...

Graham’s Dairy White Chocolate Raspberry Ripple Ice Cream

Image
Following my review of the Graham’s Dairy Espresso Caramel Low calorie ice cream today’s is for their White Chocolate and Raspberry Ripple tub, another low calorie high protein variety now available at Lidl stores for £2.99. This is White chocolate ice cream with a raspberry ripple sauce and contains 350 calories in the whole tub, with 20g of protein. It’s also a source of fibre. Even though this is a lower calorie ice cream I didn’t really think about that while eating it. It looks and tastes like a regular creamy tub of ice cream and has no thin consistency like some others do. This tastes fantastic and is probably my second favourite after the Espresso Caramel tub. It’s super creamy with a strong taste of white chocolate, and with a light texture that isn’t quite as heavy as ice cream like Haagen Dazs, but still tastes luxurious. I’m not sure how they do it...the ingredients do have added fibre and sweeteners to lower the sugar content so I’m guessing that must be it. T...

Graham's Goodness Espresso Caramel Ice Cream

Image
The supermarkets have gone into a frenzy recently and started doing their own versions of low calorie high protein ice creams, with Aldi now doing a version, Morrisons , Asda and even Lidl! They've just started selling a 4 variety range from Graham's Family Dairy, which is lower in sugar and higher in protein than most regular ice creams. I was lucky enough to be sent the range to sample from Graham's - thanks so much guys! These are available from Lidl stores now for £2.99 a tub. There's White Chocolate and Rasperry and Salted Caramel available now and also Mint Choc Chip and this Espresso Caramel Ice Cream in the range. I'm starting with this because it was my absolute favourite and is a pretty unique ice cream too. The whole tub contains 310 Calories and 21g Protein. Now I don't know how this compares to the calorie and protein contents of other ice creams (I'm not one of those who care - ice cream is ice cream as far as I'm concerned and it...

J.D Gross Dark Chocolate Sea Salt (Lidl)

Image
I always love trying a new chocolate bar, if it's new then chances are it's going in my basket...and when I saw this new J.D Gross Sea Salt Dark Chocolate in Lidl it was no exception. This costs £1.29, contains 56% cocoa solids and is dairy free, so is suitable for those who are vegan, although it may contain traces of milk, nuts and soya. I do love the blocks on J.D Gross bars, they're so stylish and look extra special. Opening the foil wrapper, the chocolate had a pleasant semisweet aroma. And it tasted lovely! I almost mistook it for milk chocolate as it's so sweet, but this isn't a bad thing at all...it's quite smooth and somehow the addition of the 0.5% sea salt brings out the smoothness more. It compliments the sweetness and lifts what otherwise might have been an average dark chocolate bar. Overall, this is a surprisingly tasty new bar from J.D Gross/Lidl and one I would buy again if I'm passing by. It's always nice to get more variety of...

Mcennedy Peanut Butter Rainbow Dragees (Lidl)

Image
I've always bemoaned the lack of Peanut Butter M&M's in the UK...I really don't get why they don't release them here officially, considering they're so popular. So I was very pleased when I came across this "knock off" version in Lidl recently for 99p. It was part of the American snacks range sometimes sold in Lidl stores. They're described as dragees and are pretty similar to M&M's, but instead of peanut butter they contain peanut paste blended with milk chocolate. Technically not peanut butter, but I'll let them off. They tasted alright but nothing amazing. The filling was kind of addictive but I would have much preferred real peanut butter. After a few handfuls they became a bit too much thanks to the sweetness of the sugar shells. Overall, these aren't a bad peanut butter M&M knock off, but if you have the option I'd go for the real thing instead. 7 out of 10.

JD Gross Vanilla Mousse White Chocolate Bars Review (Lidl)

Image
I can't believe it's taken me so long to review this...I bought it from Lidl last year and somehow it got lost in the snacks archive! The box pack contains mini sticks of white chocolate bars with a vanilla mousse filling, and they're absolutely delicious ! There were plenty of individually wrapped sticks of chocolate in the pack, each divided into 3 small segments. Usually I wouldn't see the point in this but in the case of these bars, it was very wise. That's because they taste so incredibly rich that you need to savour them just a little bit at a time. The filling contains vegetable fat, which usually I'm not a fan of since it's so unhealthy, but I keep reminding myself that Lindor also contain veg fat and they taste fantastic. So I'll forgive JD Gross on this occasion ;) Taking a bite I first noticed the intense creaminess from the white chocolate. It's very sweet and vanilla laden, but good quality - better than Milkybar for exa...

Mister Choc Chocolate Coated Sunflower Seeds (Lidl) - Quick Review

Image
When I discovered these chocolate coated sunflower seeds in Lidl I was very excited, probably more than anyone should be about sunflower seeds. Because I've never tasted chocolate coated sunflower seeds before, ever! They sounded like the perfect snack... They were in a loose plastic bag with a seal around it, making them very easy to pour into your hand and munch loads at once. And that's exactly what I did! They were extremely moreish. They were toasted and crunchy, with a lovely nutty flavour that went well with the milk chocolate. The chocolate itself was creamy and sweet, and balanced out the savoury flavour of the seeds perfectly. Overall these were a surprisingly delicious snack and made a nice change from chocolate coated nuts or raisins. I would highly recommend giving them a try! RATING: 8 out of 10.  Price: They were around 99p. Unfortunately I'm not sure if Lidl still stock them...if anyone has seen them recently please let me know in the comment...

Lidl's Bellarom White Chocolate With Strawberry Crisp Review

Image
Today's review is for a white chocolate bar you may never have heard of thanks to its exclusivity to Lidl. Lidl tends to get a bad rap as being a lower class supermarket, however their range of chocolates is fantastic quality and a lot better than many mainstream UK chocolate bars, as well as being cheaper! This bar is described as "White Chocolate with Sweetened Strawberry Flavoured Pieces" and contains 28% cocoa solids plus 22% milk solids. It reminded me of Cadbury Dream with Strawberries from years ago - here's a pic from chocolatereview.co.uk . Anyone else remember it? Opening the box revealed a fairly thick slab with the Bellarom logo imprinted on each square. It looked very classy for a "cheap" chocolate bar! Splitting it in half revealed lots of speckled dried strawberry pieces embedded within - there was definitely no shortage of strawberry! Placing a square in my mouth I was met with a delightfully strong cream flavour. The choc...

Lidl's Fin Carré Coconut Milk Chocolate Review

Image
A big thankyou to " Bring Back Banjo Chocolate " who tipped me off about this bar recently - she's always up to date with the latest Lidl bargains! You can check out her campaign to bring back Banjo chocolate bars here . Also, please take a moment to sign the petition ! :) Onto the chocolate then, I saw these bars in Lidl at 89p for a 200g block. They look quite similar to Ritter Sport bars but are much larger. They reminded me of a similar bar I've seen on Jim's Chocolate Mission - the Hosta Romy Classic Cocos . It wouldn't surprise me if both bars are made by the same company, as they both contain the same type of filling and an almost identical block design. The bar is described as "Milk chocolate with a coconut creme filling" but it also contains caramelized dessicated coconut and coconut milk. Cutting into the bar revealed the cream centre: I was expecting it to taste really amazing, but...it wasn't quite as good as I expec...

Kev's Pick & Mix: an assortment of mini snack reviews!

Image
I've had a lot of snacks reviews building up for a while now - things that get left by the wayside as newer, more interesting snacks get released. In light of Grocery Gem's fantastic Random Reviews posts I thought I'd do something similar, so here's introducing Kev's Pick & Mix: an assortment of mini snacks and drinks reviews! Barratt British Mix: I don't think these are available in shops anymore, I found them several months ago in Discount UK and they were a month out of date at the time. They tasted slightly stale but came in some interesting "British themed" shapes, such as teapots, red telephone boxes, Queen's guards, Bulldogs and Big Bens: They appear to have been a limited edition release to co-incide with the olympics and Royal Wedding last year. Bloc Candy Jelly Bean Lovehearts: "Bloc" branded sweets are available from Asda stores, but I've also seen a lot of their range in discount stores such as B...
