IKEA Blueberry Gluten Free Cheesecake

Image
Whilst visiting IKEA over Christmas I spotted this Gluten Free Blueberry cake at IKEA, in the imported foods section. They had loads of Swedish goodies there but this excited me the most...I've been off gluten for a while now and it's impossible to find a gluten free cheesecake for some odd reason! The closest you'll come to one is Almondy Tarts, which incidentally this is very similar to. Like the Almondy tarts, the base is made with almonds and apricots. I think perhaps they're made by the same Swedish company. The filling is very creamy and with a nice cheesy tang, although it wasn't quite the same as real cheesecake. It was tasty though. The blueberry filling on top is sweet and fruity, but perhaps not the best fruit to use in a cheesecake...I think something like Passionfruit would have worked better. Still, this was a very tasty cake and felt like a real treat, speaking as someone who is avoiding gluten. There's a serious lack of good desserts...

Cadbury Almondy Chocolate Mousse & Almond Cake (Gluten Free)

Since Morrisons had the Almondy cake range on special offer recently I decided I had to give this one a try. It's new in the Almondy range along with the Philadelphia Lemon Almondy Cake I reviewed a few months back. Like all Almondy cakes it's made with almonds instead of wheat and is certified gluten free, making it one of the few "mainstream" gluten-free products. Hurrah! Unfortunately it wasn't all that special. When I opened the box I thought the cake looked quite flat, with less of a fluffy mousse layer than indicated by the image on the box. Still it looked very cool with all the little chocolate buttons embedded on top! It tasted pleasant enough, with a nice textural contrast between the almond, mousse and chocolate layers, but unfortunately the mousse was neither particularly rich and chocolatey nor smooth and creamy. It was somewhere in-between and quite mild in flavour. I wasn't very impressed at all and had expected a lot more, esp...

Philadelphia Almondy Lemon Layered Cheesecake (Gluten Free) - Review

Image
I love Almondy cakes, especially the Daim version. The fact they are gluten-free is a fantastic bonus since I am gluten sensitive, and they always feel lighter than the average torte-based desserts. So when Almondy launched this new Philadelhpia cheesecake as well as a Cadbury Mousse variety I was very excited to try it! The description reads "Philadelphia Almond Layered Lemon Cheesecake combines naturally tasty almond bases with layers of deliciously creamy Philadelphia, covered in fresh lemon frosting". I let the cake defrost at room temperature for an hour as suggested, before cutting off a slice. It tasted very creamy and fresh; the cream layers had a nice tang of Philadelphia and went well with the stodgy almond layers. However the frosting was a little too sweet and there wasn't enough cream cheese to make it like a true cheesecake. It was tasty enough, and certainly a great alternative to cheesecake for anyone avoiding gluten, but I think it could have...

Whilst browsing my local Sainsbury's recently there were so many cool new products that I just had to do a Spotted In Shops dedicated to them all. Enjoy! Ben & Jerry's Core All or Nut-ting: A new Ben & Jerry's Core variety! Contains a soft chocolatey hazelnut core surrounded by hazelnut and chocolate ice creams with chocolatey chunks. Currently on special offer. New Ben and Jerry's Greek Style Frozen Yogurt: Also new from Ben & Jerry's is this range of Greek Style Frozen Yogurts. The varieties include Strawberry Shortcake, Vanilla Honey Caramel and Raspberry Chocolatey Chunk. New Oreo Ice Cream Sandwich: Oreo in ice cream sandwich form...genius! I wonder how they compare to the Oreo Ice Cream Cones released last year. Almondy Philadelphia Layered Lemon Cheesecake: Almondy have introduced two new varieties to their Swedish cakes range, the first of which is this Philadelphia Almond Layered Lemon Cheesecake. It's made using a c...
