Frey Chocobloc White Chocolate - Quick Review

Image
Being a huge fan of Swiss Frey's chocolate range I was very excited when I spotted bars of this White Chocobloc on special offer at a market stall recently. I paid only 40p which is an absolute baragin for such high quality chocolate! It's basically the same thing as white chocolate Toblerone, but in my opinion much nicer as it's less sweet and sugary and more milky and melt-in-the mouth. For a cheap chocolate the quality was excellent. The flavour of the honey made it a little bit too sweet after a few pieces but I still enjoyed it a lot, and the chopped almonds added a lovely nutty crunch. Unlike Toblerone the blocks come in unique shaped blocks: Overall, if youre a fan of Toblerone I would definitely check this out if you see it on the cheap. Luckily, Frey seem to produce private-label chocolates for Marks and Spencer under their Swiss chocolate range so you can actually buy these in M&S. Their Swiss White Mountain Bar  is identical! RATING: 8 out of 1...

Chocolat Frey Panna Cotta

Image
For my first review of 2013 here we have the Chocolat Frey Panna Cotta bar, which is described on the pack as "Dark chocolate with creamy panna cotta and raspberry filling". I discovered this in a discount shop whilst visiting family over the Christmas period, and being a fan of Swiss Frey products I was very excited to try it, even more so because panna cotta sounds like such an interesting flavour to pair with chocolate. And Frey are sure known for their interesting flavour combinations , haha! I bought two of these bars for a pound, which seemed like a good deal as they were still in date for another 4 months. However when I opened the wrapper I started to worry as the chocolate had a lot of dusty white "bloom" on it, which didn't look very appetizing at all. Taste-wise, this bar was a let-down. The filling was quite milky, similar to those Lindt milk filled bars, but not as nice. I have never tried actual panna cotta so I can't say if this had...

Frey Chocobloc Air

Image
A big thankyou to Katherine from Grocery Gems who kindly sent me this Frey Chocobloc Air recently. Being a fan of the company I was very excited to try it! This is a very unique chocolate bar, like a cross between an Aero and a Toblerone. The chocolate had a nice familiar "swiss" taste (if you've eaten swiss chocolate before you'll know what I mean) with a strong honey flavour. I felt the honey was a bit overdone to be honest, as it really dominated the chocolate, making it very sweet. The almond nougat pieces gave a nice crunch which contrasted nicely with the soft bubbly chocolate. I love the shape of the bar, it's less "blocky" than Toblerone and breaks off into nice little pieces. Overall I would say this is a very unique bar, and definitely worth a try if you see it (I believe Katherine found these in a 99p store). It makes a nice change from the norm, and I think it's a great idea from Frey to mix bubbly Aero-style chocolate with what ...

Frey Rhubarb & Aloe Vera

Image
After seeing The Snack Review's  recent posts on Chocolat Frey I thought it about time I did my own Frey review. This is quite an old product and I'm not sure it's around anymore, so this is mainly for archive purposes and to let people know this odd-sounding bar did indeed exist! I bought this from Home Bargains back in 2007, and kept the wrapper as I often do with unusual chocolate bars I've tried. It cost around 50p and I was very intrigued because I've never heard of a combination such as rhubarb and aloe vera before. To be quite honest, the taste wasn't all that nice, as far as I can remember. It was rather sickly and the rhubarb and aloe vera didn't really work with the white chocolate. If anyone has tasted aloe vera before you'll know that it has has an odd taste - to say the least - so combined with the flavour of rhubarb it was a very strange combination indeed. However I love Chocolat Frey as a company because they try new ...
