E Wedel Ptasie Mleczko (Polish Chocolate Marshmallow Fingers)

Wedel Ptasie Mleczko

Just a quick review for these "Ptasie Mleczko" today...they're made by Polish company E Wedel and are basically two marshmallow fingers coated in milk chocolate. They come in a twin-pack and remind me of those 2-finger Kitkats you get in multipacks.

Wedel Ptasie Mleczko

According to Wikipedia they are very well-known in Poland and Wedel have exclusive rights to the name. The name means "birds milk" (hence the bird image on the wrapper) and is attributed to old Slavic folk tales, where a beautiful princess tests the resourcefulness of her man by sending him into the wilderness to bring back the one fantastical luxury she does not have: bird's milk (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ptasie_mleczko). Sounds like these have quite an interesting history!

Each finger is quite thick with a thin coating of milk chocolate, and when I cut into one I found it rather soft and squidgy.

The marshmallow tasted pleasant enough, and had a lovely creamy vanilla undertone, but the texture was a bit "eggy" and spoiled the overall experience for me. The milk chocolate coating was pleasant and of good quality.

Overall, despite the odd texture I still thought these were rather tasty and made a nice change from a Kitkat with a cup of coffee. If you happen to see these in a Polish store they're definitely worth a try!

Perhaps some of my Polish readers can comment on these - are you a fan? Are they popular in Poland? Let me know in the comments! :)

RATING: 7 out of 10.

Price: 69p in local Polish store.

  1. They are very popular in Poland! Along with Princessa/Prince Polo and especially Mieszko Michaszki (both you can buy from in sainsburys)

worth trying the mieszko or maybe Wawel truffles if sainsburys have them! (or any continental shop)

    1. I've tried the Michaszki, I think...are they the peanut truffles? I reviewed the white chocolate ones from Sainsbury's. I also love coconut Princessa bars, been eating them for years :)

  2. Hi!,

First of all i want to apologise for my English. It’s first time for sth “on paper” since I graduated academy (7? years now… wow!). So…

Yep. Wedel was typical polish sweets company. Now that firm is… Japanese. As everything in this world ;) Nowadays, in my opinion, that fingers are much, much worse than in the past. There is no “magic” in chocolate and paste. But, still, Ptasie Mleczko is very popular. If You want to buy something to sweet-gift, say “thanks for xyz” etc. this is safety choice.

We have few kinds/ limited versions of this fingers by Wedel: chocolate, lemon, orange, white chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, coconut, ginger. So many company produced their own Ptasie Mleczko’s in different names (for example Milka: Alpejskie Mleczko, Goplana: Rajskie Mleczko) or they use the same name but that is hmmm “road to tribunal”.

Ps. Typical Ptasie Mleczko’s obsessions is the way that you eat them. First only chocolate, then filling… or chewing them to disappeared… or small bite after small bite… or… or… There is so many ways ;)

I’m new guy on blogger list and I’m very happy to see something from my country on Your blog :) I’ll read that place regular!

  3. I like the chocolate Ptasie Mlesczko, recently discovered Goralki (smak po brzegi) translated - taste on the edge. Still not tried so can't comment! Did notice they had nougat, chocolate and coconut versions in my local Polish shop.I always like spotting a new Polish choc!

  4. Góralki had a good opinion, so You can eat them with no fear ;-)
“Smak po brzegi” could mean that it’s good stuff form first to last bite/ it’s well filled (good taste)

PS. If You’re looking for another opinions: they were called Horalky (up to 1.02.2012) in the past.

    1. I have seen the brand name "Horalky" before in my local Polish store, I think it may have been for a wafer bar.

  5. I couldn't miss that note :)
Yeah, as a few people said before - Ptasie mleczko is very popular in Poland, and it's not surprising for me - it is really delicious. Vanillia taste appeals to me the most, you should definitely try it. Apart from that, you have a wide range of its flavours, like coconut, chocolate, white chocolate or lemon.
Góralki are my favourite bars, especially the milk ones. I think I can also explain your doubts, because smak po brzegi is a publicity stunt. It means that only the edges are touched by chocolate.
I can also recommend you Wawel's chocolates - Kasztanki. They're aghhhh, fabulous :)
