Nestlé Aero Bubbly White Chocolate Bar (Limited Edition) Review

Last December Nestlé UK ran a competition on Aero's Facebook to introduce a new limited edition Aero. The contenders were strawberry, lemon, cappuccino and white chocolate, and somehow white chocolate ended up the winner. My personal choice was for the lemon variety but alas it wasn't meant to be - the Great British Public voted white chocolate!

This isn't the first time Nestlé have done a white chocolate Aero, of course; who can forget the version with the blue wrapper from the early 2000's? Here's a pic:

This new version seems to be slightly different as there's no mention of actual white chocolate on the wrapper, it's simply described as "Smooth milk chocolate with vanilla flavoured bubbles".

Opening the wrapper, I have to say it smelled delicious and had a lovely chocolatey aroma, although it was of the milk rather than the white variety! There was also a pleasant vanilla undertone.


Cutting it in half revealed the bubbly white centre:


Taste-wise it was very nice indeed - creamy, chocolatey and with a lovely sweet vanilla flavour. The main problem though was that the milk chocolate coating overpowered the vanilla centre - it still tasted nice and creamy, but the milk chocolate was too dominant.

Overall, this isn't a bad bar of chocolate by any means but I do think a lot of people will be disappointed that it isn't all white chocolate. The milk chocolate coating distracts from the vanilla flavour and kind of spoils it.

Also I think it's disappointing this variety won the Aero Facebook competition - a Lemon, Strawberry or Cappuccino Aero would've been much nicer in my opinion and a bit different from what's already on shelves! Interesting flavours are what consumers want these days - just look at the success of Cadbury's Marvellous Creations range. Come on Nestlé, be a bit more daring next time! ;)

    A lemon aero would have been nice, I love lemon flavour. I don't like white chocolate but this looks more vanilla-y so I might give it a try.

      Definitely worth a try, this is a lot more vanilla flavoured than regular white choc although still very sweet.

    all time favourite chocolate bar. Was addicted to them back when you first came out and when i saw them in my local londis i dropped everything i was doing and grabbed one. Stil tastes the excat same. hope it stays

Cadbury Dream Ice Creams - back for Summer! (UK)

If you've sorely missed Cadbury Dream White Chocolate since it was withdrawn from UK shelves many years ago, fear not, it's going to be back for Summer, albeit in a colder form - yes, ice cream! Dream Ice Creams have been in shops sporadically for several years now (including a Strawberry variety that was exclusive to Farmfoods) but finally they're getting an official release just for the Summer, yay! It will be sold in major supermarkets in packs of three, and impulse sticks will cost £1.80 from convenience stores. Maybe Cadbury are testing the waters to see how popular they are...who knows, maybe the proper Cadbury Dream bar may be resurrected if sales are good! You can already find Cadbury Dream ice creams in Fultons Foods , a Northern based frozen food store if you're lucky enough to live near one (there's a store finder in the link above). I'm not sure if they sell imports or the official UK version, but here's some I spotted in there recently:

Asda Tinned Banana Blossom Review

Recently, I spotted a totally new vegetable/fruit (not sure which it actually is!) in Asda called Banana Blossom in a tin. It was next to the tins of Jackfruit which is a well known vegan meat alternative. I assumed it was a similar thing so happily bought some to try - it’s £1.50 a tin. The image on the wrapper looked innocent enough - battered fish pieces, only vegan! Surely this stuff must be good? Turns out that packaging was very misleading because nothing could prepare me for the horror that was lurking inside...when I opened the tin it was like opening something from a horror film, discovering the mouldy body of an ancient alien creature or other such evil. It looked hideous!! “Surely this is not meant for human consumption?!”, I thought. Heck it’s not even suitable for bird consumption....I think flies would even turn their nose up at this thing, which looked like rotten infested seaweed.
