Cadbury Dairy Milk 30% Less Sugar & Boost + Protein (Snacks News)

dairy milk 30 percent less sugar

Just a quick heads up on some important snacks news today...Cadbury are going to launch a new 30% Less Sugar version of Dairy Milk! Strangely, it won't be available until 2019 so don't get too excited. The new bars are not replacing the regular variety but are an alternative for those wishing to reduce their sugar intake. They will not be made with artificial sweeteners, but added fibres instead.

Personally I think it's a pointless exercise, if you're eating Dairy Milk in the first place you probably aren't too concerned with your sugar intake, and a 30% reduction is hardly a lot.

As well as the new Dairy Milk, Cadbury are also launching a "Boost + Protein" bar, aimed at gym bunnies in need of an extra source. Luckily they'll be available this year so you won't have to wait too long to try them!

Let me know your thoughts in the comments...do you want to see reduced sugar versions of your favourite chocolate bars or would you prefer a smaller amount of the same bar instead?

  1. Less Sugar is a great thing for the chocolate market. Too many brands of chocolate eaten on breaks and on long car journeys or eating too regulary by a mix of age groups are poor quality, due too much sugar making up the flavour.

People think they taste great, when instead that is mostly the sugar talking in such a way their minds and taste buds are hardwired to it. When you give a large chunk of such people a good quality dark chocolate with a minium of 70%, it will result in them looking, disappointed and disgusted.

But if you gave them a below par or even further brand that pretends what they are selling is dark chocolate. One being Asda with my father being a person who eats their dark chocolate and nut variant every day. They believe it is proper dark chocolate and good quality. Nope, that is the sugar again, while the price adds fuel to his lies and poor mindset.

Right why do I think more brands need to offer less sugar. First Chocolate is meant to be a treat. Secondly the biggest popular brands needs to look more into using higher grade caco and not the over process choco mass mixed with something or in it's own, choco or choco butter. And before you say, oh but it would put it up the price.

Do you know what I say to that. If the quality is improved enough in such a way, it gets near a price range accepted by the masses like say Ritter or Greens & Black in the long run that is a win win. Simply put it higher priced chocolate with a decent quality will make people enjoy it like it use to be enjoyed as, that being a treat.

Also back in those days. I reckon the prices are more when inflation is added compared to what they charge currently for chocolate from a well known cheaply priced UK or American brand.

Lastly increased priced and changed mindset means people in theory, could or should save money in the long run if they take their time. Instead of doing something like for example. The people who buy a chocolate bar every day in single pack form or multipack form, just so they can eat 1-2 over 1-2 breaks, and maybe one at home or one on the way to work.

    1. businesses aren't really doing this out of choice. sugar tax has hit drinks and businesses are pre-emptively introducing these snacks to get people used to these lower sugar versions before they are basically forced to make them mainstream

  2. I don't know why they can't just leave things as they. The more they mess with things to make them 'healthier' the less 'healthy' I believe they will be. If I want chocolate I want chocolate, I don't care about the amount the amount of and a normal person without specific diet requirements shouldn't either. They need to stop playing with ingredients so much!

  3. I find most chocolate to sweet anyway so for me it's great! I prefer Hotel Chocolate chocolate as in the ones where the sugar percentages are in the 30's and lower 40's per 100g. It's a great move for the younger generations to experience not so much sweet sweets. Lets face it it isn't great for you is it! With kids needing more dental work than ever and obesity the way it is, I don't understand why people are moaning about the change for the better. Maybe they are not affected but there are too many that are.

  4. I'm reserving judgement til I taste it - but what excites me the most about it is the fact they're not replacing the sugar with sweeteners! I can't stand this move to reduce the sugar in everything but replace it with sweeteners instead.
