Cadbury Curly Wurly Squirlies
One minute you're talking about a new mini product you'd like to see, the next minute it's in shops...that seems to be how Cadbury's roll these days, since a mini version of everything they make is inevitable now. Yes, Cadbury's iconic Curly Wurly bar is the latest to get the miniature treatment, although they actually did these in 2007 too.
Looks more like fishing bait than a tasty snack, right?
Not one to let that stop me, I decided to pull the head apart, as helpfully depicted on the wrapper. Hey, I'm just copying Cadbury's example, don't have a go at me!
Trying to forget images of crawling bugs in my mind, I took a bite. And they tasted as you'd expect: chewy toffee coated in Cadbury's milk chocolate. They were kind of addictive, I have to admit, although they didn't have much actual flavour, since Cadbury's chocolate isn't great quality these days. I can't help thinking that an actual Curly Wurly would be infinitely more enjoyable...half of the fun of them is the long chewy bars!
Overall, these aren't too bad, if chewy caramel is your thing you might just love them. I do think Cadbury's need to get a bit more inventive and start creating some genuinely new products rather than miniaturising everything they already make. The Big Taste Peanut Caramel Crisp was a step in the right direction...please continue that way Cadbury!
Available from Tesco.
Nooooo worm decapitation! I bought a proper Curly Wurly about six months ago and I wished I'd never bothered - there was just no flavour or depth to it! The caramel got all up in my teeth and then didn't move. I'm agreeing with you though that some new and interesting product development needs to be done. Mondelez has an awful lot of IP to work with!
ReplyDeleteYeah it seems most of their products don't taste of much now :( I don't understand it because Milka still tastes alright and they're both made by Mondelez?
DeleteI don't know if you've spotted, but Milka products list hazelnut in their ingredients list. I had a bar of Ritter the other day which was just a Cocoa Mousse flavour and that listed hazelnuts too. I'm wondering if they use it to boost the flavour somehow, perhaps it adds some depth... that's what's missing from Cadbury. Flavourless chocolate that feels over sweet.
DeleteGreat collection and worthful information you have posted here. Thank you very much for that! The image explanation always give some good food for thought. Great day!
ReplyDeleteWow!!! I thought they were marvellous!!! Karishma :)
